That's exactly my plan.

The problem I face over here is that inspite of getting good $$$ I can't pay for an apartment (I have family, it has to be a 5 room apartment) without a 25 year mortgage. 5 roomers go for about 1.6 to 1.8 million $ US here, if I don't want to live one hour away, where it still costs half of that.
So to buy property, I would have to take the 25 years + immediately invest more than I have now, because I must put a minimum of 30% of the price immediately. I would be seriously strapped for cash the next 5 years if I did that.

Plus the rest here is expensive too. A pound of good beef is about 75 USD, a liter of gasoline is over 2 USD and don't get me started on the rest, like ladyboys, where 30 minutes cost 150 USD, and that's not even a bad price.
Plus the people here are just so... anal.

You cannot compare a salary in any other country with Thailand. With the limited information provided I would guess 50,000 to 100,000 Baht per month.

If you think you can get a job in Thailand paying anywhere near 100K Euro you are delusional.

You can actually, there are many positions that employers now have to try and attract candidates on a global search. Especially specialist roles in IT, engineering or technical positions. I have seen some Telco/SAP roles advertised at £800+ per day.

I know (well, knew) SAP guys (Aussies) working for pharmaceutical companies near Asok and they ain't making £800+ per day... and these are the integrators and designers. Also knew another SAP boss working for one of the banks... HE was making wedge but it was his company, but I doubt if even he was pulling down 800 quid a day.

A friend of mine works in advertising, and is a very experienced senior manager. Has been senior account director with some very big agencies and MD at some smaller ones in Europe and the Middle East.

He's also a LOS addict and has a beautiful apartment in Thonglor BKK, where he spends as much time as he can.

While he was over there earlier this year, he happened to hear about a vacant MD position at the BKK office of one of the world's biggest networks. he'd even worked for this group before, very successfully, and had a first class reputation with them. So he was a perfect fit for the job.

When he went along, they more or less offered him the job there and then. But the salary was only 150,000 baht per month, all in. Excellent money for Thailand, no doubt, but absolutely fuck all in comparison with what an MD would expect at the same agency anywhere else.

That's exactly my point mate. The conclusion seems to be that Thai wages are way below the norm - unless, as other posters have noted, you get sent over there on an expat package.

That happened to a guy who used to work for me. He won't say exactly what he's earning but it's on a par with what he would expect elsewhere. Needless to say, I hate him!

I don't know if I'd say a lot are earning that much...but certainly I'm sure the doctors, lawyers, and business executives in LOS do quite well and such a salary is surely within their range (if not far below it!).

Yes, Bangkokians are getting wealthier in terms of salary, but I think once again this is confined to a relatively small group of people. And lets not forget that while salaries may be rising rapidly, Thailand is also experiencing high levels of inflation as well.

300,000 Baht a month - no way - the only people I know who are even near that (legitimately) are people who own their own business. I don't know a single salaried Thai who is in that range, and I know a lot of professionals.

The only person I know who even comes close is a director of IT with 30+ years of experience who worked and went to school in USA and then came back.
