Last time i was offered an electrical job in thailand the going rate was 650 baht a day . Met sone guys working for an oil company doing 100K GBP . Im still dreaming of course !!

The title reads "Looking for skilled tradesmen in Thailand" well me thinks you could look from now till the end of time & the only Skilled Electricain you would find , would be on fecking holiday LOL

 Your not wrong Seamus , it makes me cringe some of the electrical nightmares i see , especially on walking st !!! I have worked at both Bangkok airports for a german company and they paid european wage plus your choice of hotel  .

The newly renovated rooms at the Pattaya Marriott have 3 prong grounded receptacles. At first thought I figured they had brought in electricians from Europe or the USA to do what looked like such a professional job... that was before I looked in the closet behind where the receptacle was located... what did I find? A White and Black wire openly strung and no ground wire in site. The wires were not even in conduit or a cable of any type... just 2 wires.. This type of wiring would only pass code if it was for a 16 volt door bell but its Thailand and its 220 Volts... funny as hell really. What's really scary are the wires in the pool for the underwater lights... are they on any type of working GFI?

Someone said to me about a year ago that they had changed the electrical regulations in Thailand and now all new installations have to be earth grounded. I can't confirm if that's true.

More recently I did see a house which had ground spike at one front corner  -  no wires were attached to it.....  but it did have an earth.

It may be sloppy, but it all works.

The rest of the world is completely overregulated.

Too much regulation just increases costs.

If all of the electrical wiring had to be compliant and inspected, think of how much extra it would cost. Then add in the cost of making all the other utilities compliant.

Then add in the cost of ensuring that all food outlets were compliant for handling foods.

I've doubled the cost of your holiday already and haven't even started.

The regulators are just fat cats who add no value.

How many people do you actually know who were electrocuted in Thailand hotels?

I say, leave Thailand alone.

Electrical installations are required to be compliant in Thailand and they are regularly inspected.

Food outlets are inspected before they are allowed to open for business.

I have just recently done a pilot scheme in china for vodaphone doing the DC phone masts for mobile 3G networks , im always looking for contracts in thailand but they are as rare as rocking horse shit !!

A British man died when floodwaters caused by heavy rain engulfed an electrical cable near to where he was walking during the early hours of June 19.
The man, Scott Mitchinfow, age 32, was walking through floodwaters beside Pattaya School No 8 near Soi 17 on Pratamnak Road, on his way back to the nearby D&House Hotel, when he was electrocuted.
He was transferred unconscious to Pattaya Memorial Hospital where despite the attention of physicians he passed away.

A female employee of a 7-Eleven store on Walking Street died from an electric shock when she was using a faulty rice cooker.
The store's assistant manager, 32-year-old Miss Suriporn Chutinawee, called Pattaya police to the scene at 2:30am on February 20.
Her body was lying on its back wearing a 7-Eleven uniform, and she was barefoot. Her right hand was clutching a power cord, which was connected to the rice cooker that had just cooked rice. Her lips were black and blue.

Twelve-year-old Kasper Kirchbecker, on holiday from Denmark with his parents, was electrocuted while playing at the sea-side swimming pool of the Golden Cliff House at South Pattaya at around dusk on Friday, June 16.
The young schoolboy was tragically killed in the latest episode of an ongoing saga of negligence and haphazard management endemic in certain sectors of the hotel and tourist industry.
James Grunwell, who lives in Thailand, was playing with Kasper at the time and was more fortunate. He survived with injuries.
The parents of both boys were sitting on the balcony overlooking the pool when tragedy struck.

I'd rather pay the extra and arrive alive!
