Really? Do those people that live in Thailand really require a pool table? I cannot remember the last time I played pool and I have been here quite a while, perhaps longer than most on this board.

I hope all goes well, I think staying in the same premises is a good idea, enlarging is also a plus, especially if there are a few quiet corners.

I just hope there is no confusion over what the bar does or is. And by that I do not mean the customers.

I reckon she loses very few customers by not having a pool table, certainly when I enter Guess Bar Pool is quite close to being the last thing on my mind  And presumably,some of the other Suk Soi 1 bar owners are going to be a trifle pissed off now that Jay has decided she wants a slice of the pool players market.
However, I was in my local fire station the other day and noticed they have a pool table in order to give the firemen something to do whilst not unrolling hoses so that probably explains the reasoning.

Idea #2082

Include 2 'cubicles' for 'Champagne Bar' service. This is an idea from Canada. Christian-like confessional cubicles whereby you pay money to visit the confessional, which is basically a more private area with 3 sides (not 4, so open on one side) you can, er, see the talent, and do whatever is physically possible in that space. Many GG bars in Ontario, Canada have this idea. Worked for me!

I was in the bar the other night and saw 3 guys going to play pool in another bar with girls from Guess Bar. Imagne, 2 drinks each, 6 people = lost revenue of circa 1000baht. In isolation, may not sound much, but 30,000b assuming a month, is not the sort of revenue you want to be losing, when its easily reversable and that does not even include revenue from the pool table itself. The bar has done well in building up a lot of 'regular' customers - it these guys that are driving the suggestion and she would be crazy not to listen to them.

Lets face it - with the enlarging of the bar, she is not going to be losing anything - infact probably gaining a more 'discrete' lounge area and the pool tables will be a bonus. Personally I cant see any downside - the entrance will remain screened in and she wont be appealing to other regualr 'pool players' - its aimed at existing customers of the bar, not knicking customers from other GG bars in the building.

Having pool tables will keep customers longer in the bar spending money, some people dont like to play but some do so it will be a positive addition to the bar.

With my amazing techie ability - I have thrown together how the bar will look - well actually just assume the walls will look like this as Jay has her own ideas and once her and the 'stylist' guy get to work, god only knows how it will end up - but for sure the exterior walls will remain the same

So as I say with the 2 bars together it will end up like a L shape with the door remaining where it is and a far more 'private and cosy' lounging area. Forgive my lack of L shape sofas and an actual pool Table as my software dont have those (and the eagle eyed guys will see its shown as a ping pong table, but dont worry about that detail )

Am very impressed with that mardhi, it looks like its going to be great, and I agree with you on losing out on revenue from guys going to other bars to play pool with jays staff, bought a pool table years ago for my house, Irish/UK standard size table for 900euro which is about 40000baht, and I would expect it to be cheaper in thailand for one, so the pool tables should pay for themselves within 6 to 8 weeks with extra drink revenue

The idea of enlarging the Guess Bar is great and I have played pool several times outside the bar with Jane (She never won a game), but what a plesaure to see her bending over the table, now we wil get to see several of them from behind in different poses! Im sure that Jay will keep the ambiance right and it will become a place where people stay longer in my opinion. The lost revenue in the past is a good rason to do this. Good luck to Jay on the renovations and I look forward to seeing it in person very soon.....

The plan looks good to me.

One suggestion  -  if you turn the right hand table 90 degrees you could maybe? have a little more room for the seats at the end of the bar and opposite the stage.

What we also need is someone to do a study into which is the best way round to place the tables so that we get the best view(s)        

I've already packed my saw so as Stewart suggested I can soon lop a few inches off each table leg!

Pool tables do not fit into the Customers experience of the Guess Bar. If you want to lounge around and be doted upon by the girls then I like the Guess Bar. If you want to be attacked by edgy girls then Nana Plaza is for you. If you want to play pool then there are other bars that deliver this experience.

If Jay wants to expand the Guess business I would prefer the pool tables setup as a seperate business & well away from the current bar setup. Perhaps Guess Femboy Pool.... etc.

Issues like noise, ambience, music, other customers voices, which girls are present are part of the environment and play an important role as much as the decor.

But if 90% of revenue comes from a dozen locals then getting their voice of customer is critical. And they may not know what they want!

My favourite bar in Hua Hin (The Headrock Bar) has a computer with always on internet access... very hand for me!

must admit as a snooker/billiards player i have never quite seen the magic of pool, (even though i have played it) but i would love to take on Jane for a certain prize!! (will have to remember to pack my contact lenses!)

Personally I like the idea of a pool table. Will be there next tuesday/wednesday and my original idea was to go play pool and have a few drinks elsewhere first. I can now (hopefully) go straight to Guess and get the best of both worlds. If any forum members will be there mid-week, would like to put a few faces to names
