How about adding a Hot Tub

      (mardhi @ Aug. 16 2007,23:54)
(brocklanders @ Aug. 17 2007,11:04) I like every idea except for the pool tables...they take up too much space.  Not just where the actual pool table is but the area around it needs to be clear when people are taking shots.   There are antisocial and a waste fo space IMHO.   Just get a bunch of big expensive leather couches, more tables, spruce up the walls a bit and the place will have more space for punters and more lb's.
I tend to agree with your sentiment and Jay actually suggested a pool table originally in the bar and I and others said we thought it might be a bit naff + where would it go in the space she had available.

After 9 months of operation I and the other detractors have to agree that she was correct - she loses customers as a result of not having a pool table and she see's it every day where many of 'her' customers have to go to another bar within the building to play pool.    This particularly affects the people who live in Thailand and support the bar day in and day out.     She has also observed during the quiet periods her own staff play pool with other bar's customers - indirectly she is bolstering the revenue of those bars and her intention is to listen to the bars most valuable customers and provide the service herself, without detracting from the overall experience of Guess Bar in terms of ambience, service, comfort etc.

The design guy will be working on the layout to accomodate both an enlarged lounge area and the pool tables - the new bar area is actually about 20% bigger than the current Guess bar so infact the total area will more than double in size and the initial thoughts on where the pool tables will go will not detract from the overall feel so long as the lighting and decor are done asthetically.

      Cheers
      Mardhi

when the 'expand to include a pool table' idea was floated on an earlier thread i was an immediate supporter, being one of those who wandered next door to shoot some pool with famous (and infamous ) regulars here, during which times i never felt comfortable buying my beers from the competition.
i have no doubt that any current doubters will be won over as soon as they see fern and the other resident pool sharks leaning over the table to make the simplest of bank shots a work of art.
i'd never known how beautiful a game pool could be to watch. and look forward to admiring it all from the comfort of a luxury barstool, even if that stool be engraved with some other punter's moniker.
      so -- congratulations.
oh, and while you're at it, how about projecting a closed circuit camera angle on the position of the player's ass while in the 'breaking position' to be shown above the bar for the admiration of the heavy drinkers? and make it a house rule that *only* ladyboys can break.

A pool table or two is going to bring in a minimal amount of guys who love the game.    Use the space wisely and put in more and better furniture.    Pool tables take up too much space and they divert attention to the wrong place.      Get a couple good plasma tvs that take up a couple walls while you are at it so we can watch the soccer games when available.    One pool table is a bad idea, two will be a disaster and create a cramped environment.  Dont put in pool table just because a couple wankers would rather play pool than sit and talk to the ladboys and feel them up.  If you had an two floor venue then pool tables would be a great idea.

                everyone will never agree here.

so jay just needs to go ahead with her plan and vision- someone will always say "oh thats a bad idea..."

this is why some businesses succeed. it is good to listen to the various opinions, but ultimately you have to stop listening at some point and do what you feel is right.

i personally like the idea of a pool table. i'm not that comfortable sitting around chatting with other guys about my love of ladyboy cock, and if i'm not ready to select and barfine, i'd appreciate something entertaining to do while im scouting. (tho the pillow job is pretty entertaining)

and there are plenty of upscale lounges that have pulled off the pool table thing in the west.

the hot tub idea is funny but would never work. theyd have to drain it after every customer. could you imaging getting and seeing the fried egg white of some previous guys sperm drifting by???

Oh my god - I go out for a day or two and all hell has broken loose in the zoo.

In a nutshell, Jay WILL put pool tables - the top revenue customers of the bar want it - they shape her views as they vote with their baht day in and day out. Sorry if that sounds 'negative' but she listens to her most prolific customers first.

The decor will look GOOD - she aint a clown (well ok thats debatable but the interior 'stylist' is not LOL - he knows how to make a bar work, design wise.)

There will be NO footrest - it makes no odds in terms of revenue and costs at least 2 weeks of pure profit to add it in. No other ladyboy bar in BKK has one and this one wont add one for cosmestic or practical purposes as it does not pay for itself.

As far as I know, there will be NO hot tub (nice idea though), no Pinball machine and no dancer fever machine or that other annoying floor game Snick suggested.

And as for Stewarts comment about pool tables and lounges - well its a good thing we are mates otherwise I might start - its a business, and a business in business to make money - rule number one - provide services your key customers are asking for and profit from it - a pool table is NOT going to detract from customer numbers in Guess Bar.

                    Cheers

I believe (one of the) the pool tables will be in situ within a week from now - but dont ask me what will happen to the sofas in the meantime - I have no idea and dare not ask for fear of getting my balls mangled.......

Thats is exactly the view that Jay is taking - she feels GIRLS over everything else count for customer volume. Already she has more salary staff than any LB bar in Pattaya and she is chasing the bigger BKK bars as we speak in terms of volume. Like it or not, all 5 BKK LB bars have at least 3 times the volume of every Pattaya LB bar put together. If she does not have over 40 salary girls before Christmas, I will be extremely surprised.

                        Cheers

Good answer. Wanting to be an 'up market lounge' is not necessarily the same as wanting to run a profitable business. Listen to customers and you will do more right than you do wrong

That would be an episode I love to see
And what an advirtise that would be, all for free

Pool is good, make sure its viewable from all places, or as someone suggested, broadcast it to the private area, love to see Jenny and Jane battle it out with the sticks in just miniskirts, highheels and black stockings (no bras)  ...love to see all the girls bend over the table by the way when I think about it.......

I can think of worse sites than watching some sexy ladyboys bending over the pool table so I say the bigger table the better so they have to bend further
I suggest the tables are 1 foot LOWER than normal pool tables so they have top bend DOWN more
