(allstar88 @ Jun. 17 2007,09:23) as an englishman i find celebrating the 4th. of july offensive,it was a strategic withdrawal!
Seem's a lot of people in Blighty also seem to know what date St Paddy's day is and NOT St George's Day

And all I know about July 4th is that its KL's BIRTHDAY

    Dave007...
I celebrate the 4th of July and St. Patricks day , but WTF is St. George's Day ?

If there is or was a William Wallace day I'd celebrate that as well , since the majority of my ancestry came from Scotland

        Another bloody terrorist!

      RR.

(Try doing a little serious reading about Wallace rather than watching the Mel Gibson film - which is about as historically accurate as a Buggs Bunny cartoon!)
Pedants rule, OK. Or more precisely, exhibit certain of the conventional trappings of leadership.

My ancestry can be traced back to "Robert the Bruce" .

Hmmm terrorist, I suppose you could say that about my scottish roots , I suppose you could say that about my american roots and I suppose you could say that about my southern roots . And I have no problem with any of the three .

So I suppose that would make me a Scottish - Yank - Reb

                  Hello Sika,

Your link to the BBC website works OK but they have dropped the page

My comment about Wallace was tounge in cheek  -  but the simple fact is that he was a long way from being a whiter than white hero.
His resume inclueded kidnapping, rape, murder, treason against his own king and few other minor infractions.
Although he was seen as a hero by many Scots the nobles on his own side disliked and distrusted him so much they handed him over to the English so that they could kill him without the Scots being seen to have his blood on their hands.
Like I said do a bit of serious reading  -  there are plenty of decent books about that period in Scottish history.

The Mel Gibson film?  Well if you believe that then maybe you should get a subscription to the National Enquirer
