The (new?) Guess Bar now has been in operation for a few months and the hurried move from it's previous location seems to have settled down into a routine.
Don't go to the new one expecting the old one. These are two different clubs set up for two different purposes.
Briefly, the pros are... girls, prices and location.
There are more girls and the clone mold of Peter Gabriel video models has been cast aside for a more varied troupe of P4P entertainers. The chances are (unless you like post ops) you will find something to your liking.
The girls as a whole are laid back and helpful. It's not an aggressive or annoying place to go as far as the girls are concerned. They seem to have taken on the mantle of 'waitress/hostess' as and when the need arises, too.
There are one or two annoying ones, but even they quickly get the picture. There have been rumours about the ages of the staff so - as in any bar - protect yourself and check those IDs, or at least get the hotel to.
The location is better... Not the actual bar, but its' place on the map. If you are summoning the energy and will to go to The Shitpits then The Guess Bar is a good place to start... especially now that Lucky Lukes is gonna be hotter than hell outside during the summer!
It's CHEAP! The prices are very, very good and are all clearly displayed on the bar and tables. You will NOT purposefully get ripped off in this bar, although I have heard that the newer girls are taking liberties with some tabs!
Briefly, the cons are... NOISE!
These virtues have come at a price. The new bar is smaller and doesn't have the classy and exclusive 'Club' feel of it's predecessor.
The noise from the speakers is simply unbearable and while unwelcome requests to the staff to turn it down work for a few minutes, generally The Guess Bar (and traditional Thai) adage of "If it's loud, they will come!" is at work here.
Having said that - a guest last night brought in his own CDs which they were happy to play - so if you want reasonable music at a tolerable volume, then bring your own and stand outside! !!!
There are two pool tables. I didn't used to mind this before but now I hope and pray that they burn down. The childish and agonizingly high pitched squeals of excitement from them is unbearable and there's no one able or willing to control it. This isn't just the odd squeal after a lucky shot - it's a campaign of noise deliberately aimed at annoying the customers. A bit like monkeys throwing their shit at zoo-visitors.
Here again - to really enjoy the fruits of this bar you are better off outside it!
Still no foot rail... I don't know why... they can afford it. And it would add to the comfort of the customers although you get the feeling these days that the customers are just there to pay for the staff having a 'youth club' at their disposal!
Summary...
If you want a cheap place to pick up great girls and find some P4P company then The Guess Bar is perfect. If you want to go there and meet friends to relax and chat then you'll be looking elsewhere after the first drink.
The place needs a 'mamasan' desperately.
Still the best place in town but could be a lot better with a firm hand and a willingness to do right by the customer.
