Wow..today I tried my photographer friend's CONTAX AFD 645 with Zeiss lenses.
I didn 't know it was possible to take 80MB pics , . Blowing up details of the full body pic of a model taken at some 4 mts of distance and being able to see neatly her body hairs and pores
But that's more like a studio or tripod camera..not that practical to carry around and shutter speed limited to max. 1/125 sec. if I'm not wrong.Do only what you think it's good for you, and not what others think should be good for you!

I have had a Canon EOS 1N for ten years and well pleased with it. Iwas planning to buy a Canon 75-300 zoom and a 2x converter in Korea, before I move to LOS in Jan 09. Both these items are about $300 each give or take a dollar with the Korean won exchange rate.
Are they cheaper in Bangkok, Donny?
Donny seems to be the expert.

Thays, the US has the best prices for photographic equipment. If you can manage a visit there before your move, you'll save $$$ compared to Korea. Hong Kong and Singapore are also good. I have seen prices for Sony/Minolta camera equipment here and it is more expensive than Canada/US.
Donnnny is a Nikon freak - and was able to get a better deal for his camera in Thailand than in Australia.

The very beautiful 'Strelitzia-reginae'. Marshal, if your doing food, get a 100mm. it's going to give you more room and better light placement. With a 50mm you need to get up too close. If you can find a shop with both try them out. You will end up with the 100mm for sure

Nikon fraks, help me out. I want to finally get a digital SLR. I have a fild F80, and am now considering to either get Nikons lowest price DSLR D40 or go higher end and get the D80. I really want to keep the budget in line and am wondering how crazy it would be to match the D40 with a Nikkor 18-200 ? Not the usual combination, but overall I dont see how much more as a body the D80 will give me over the D40. Ofcourse the reason to go nikon is to have acces to the Nikkor family, but Tamron and Sigma make some awfully tempting lenses at softer prices.Slinging it in Singapore

Singapore Sling, I would recommend you do more research before you buy and don't limit yourself only to Nikon, Sony and Canon both make some excellent DSLRs.
Sony has a great feature with in-body image stabilization (Super steady shot) - while Canon and Nikon both require this built into the lens.
Take a look at Digital Photography Review website Digital Photography Review. Also don't fall into the megapixel myth that more is better, unless you require wall sized prints, 6 megapixels can provide excellent results up to poster size and have a advantage of less "noise" at higher ISOs.

singapore i have had a D80 for nearly a year now, and aM IN THE SAME DILEMA AS YOU, IM NOT SURE WETHER TO UP GRADE TO FULL SIZE IMAGE SENSOR D700,but keep coming back to the same conclusion. the D80 will pretty well do what the 700 will.with a few exceptions. My D80 is brilliant, for most aplications, and since i bought the speed light 800 flash and the 50mm f1.4 and macro lens i feel i have arrived.
As rxpharm says sony and canon make some great cams too,and yes don't get sucked into the megapixle myth.
MInd you rxpharm the new D700 will give you nodigital noise(grain in film) shots up to 2600 iso(international standards organisation) thats pretty good.coupled to a full size image sensor 36x24 very tempting at around $2000 usjust a sex tourist looking for hot fun

Hello Donny,
the D700 seems to be sold at 2,999 USD. Where did you see the 2000 USD price tag. Any online sales?
I'm serioulsy considering this D700 camera since I've no amera at all and would like to take photography up a bit serioulsy, as I used to do it ages ago.
I was thinking of buying Zeiss lenses instead of the Nikkors.
However, my interest it's more into art photography/portraits/peopleand not quite landscapes/nature/action. Would a 645 camera be better for me, despite the bulkiness.
So confused...Do only what you think it's good for you, and not what others think should be good for you!
