Keep shooting like your using film, so you don't waste time making it "right" on a computer

i am no expert when i comes to photography and it would bore me to death having to sit in the computer touching pictures up, i use a straightforward Canon A640 which gives upto 10mp pictures, for your average user i find it does what i need. An SLR would be a waste of money for me!

donnnnnny, while those digital Hasselblads are amazing, you will never notice the difference unless you start making wall sized images. You current camera will make great images up to poster size 16x20 inches - save the money for more trips to LOS!

MARKUK, you are right, if you are happy with your images from the Canon, there is no need to get a dSLR, but if you ever get to the point you want to do more, you know the road to take. It isn't just a matter of using the computer either as using different kinds of lenses (wide angle not available on point and shoots wider than 28 mm) and the ability to control the depth of field for more artistic backgounds.

Cleaning is another are of interest for me. it seems the digital image sensor (filter) will need cleaning from time to time. you can get this done professionally at around$150 aus per go, or attempt to do it your self. There is a great little kit called Dust aid for around $59.50c aus .http://www.cameracheckpoint.com.au/ have a look at this great little web sight situated in Dubbo western NSW australia
there are some great tips on cleaning and available products for the job.
i just opened up my D80 to find dust and fluff in the mirror chamber , which i easily blew out and removed. When i locked the mirror in the up position i was very happy top see no crap in or around the sensor filter.
i have now bought the dust aid kit and some other stuff for this delicate job
                      cheers

I use a Nikon F3 with a 28mm AI lens for my Thai trips and a Fuji S9600 bridge digital for shots in the U.K. The cost of film processing is inexpensive in Thailand compared to the U.K.
