    • (TTChang @ Dec. 29 2010,03:13)  Hope    can keep up the intensity for Sydney, and ruin Pentire's bet.
On this occasion I shall be delighted with the 2-1 thank you very much.

After those previous years of torment, I'm delighted that you were at the right place/right time Mr Chang.
Looking back.....I was at the Gabba, Adelaide & MCG in 1986 when Gatting's boys did the biz. The Aussies managed to win in Sydney because of a spin bowler that hardly anybody had ever heard of

Anybody remember his name ? I still have the programme.

I hope they don't find another one next week

        Thanx in advance

        • daveduke007 - Bangkok is GMT+7 and Sydney is GMT+10, so that's 3 hours difference. Early bird gets the work!

In the back of my mind I remember a headline "Australia Calls Up Unknown Spinner" or something like that. And I knew he's the fella you refer to, but I had no idea who he is.

And there was something else about that last Test in Sydney because something weird happened there. But what?

I finally had to Google it to discover who was this wunderkind? Peter Taylor. I never would have remembered.

But the odd thing was there were two outstanding spin bowling performances in that Test.

First Taylor got 6/78 in the first innings, then another spinner got 5/72 in the second innings & won the game by bowling out Embury in the second last over.

Taylor was given Man of the Match but who was the other spinner? Peter Sleep. Remember?

If you are ever in Rishton, Lancashire, call into the pub called The Wickets & say hello to him. Peter Sleep is the guv'nor...
Despite the high cost of living, it continues to be popular.

Ah yes Peter Sleep the South Australian leggy.
It's interesting that he now resides in Lancashire having finished his career playing Lancs league cricket {as many of the games former test players used to} for decent money, in order to top up their benevolent fund.

              I'd forgotten about him pacman

Sydney now on Summer Time, so BKK + 4.

Means you will be up at 6 to see the toss or 7am to see the first ball

                        • Wikipedia: The Ashes is a Test cricket series played between England and Australia. It is one of the most celebrated rivalries in international cricket and dates back to 1882.

The series is named after a satirical obituary published in a British newspaper, The Sporting Times, in 1882 after a match at The Oval in which Australia beat England on an English ground for the first time. The obituary stated that English cricket had died, and the body will be cremated and the ashes taken to Australia. The English media dubbed the next English tour to Australia (1882€“83) as the quest to regain The Ashes.
