(Jake_Sully @ Jun. 14 2010,20:10) I beg to differ Tomcat. The most boring sport of all time is Nascar.

(Jake_Sully @ Jun. 14 2010,19:20) Actually the only reason to explain the US not liking football is the anti-British sentiment of the 1776-1812's and false pride. Case in point, everyone says football needs more scoring.. yet they watch hockey which has lower scores than football in most cases or has in my lifetime until 2 years ago. Also how come the americans never play cricket. You get higher scores than basketball there and its much more entertaining than baseball.
I think you're trying to get a wind up Jake. Most of us Yanks have gotten over our Anti British sentiment from 1776-1812. I have anyway.

Heck, we even forgave them to the point of bailing them out two different times when they had the Huns pissed off at them.

I would bet you that if you could find the score of the average NHL hockey game over the past 15 years that it is higher than the average score of all the pro soccer games over the same period.

One other reason hockey is still exciting even when low scoring is the numbers of shots on goal and the overall physicality. IMO anyway. I would also say it's a safe bet the average number of shots on goal in hockey is higher than the number of kicks on goal in soccer. At the pro level of both that is.

(BlueBallz @ Jun. 14 2010,20:52) NEWSFLASH:  That NY Post headline WAS a wind up!!!  In this case a draw was considered a win as we were expected to get fuck all from the game.  You should have seen this one Man City web site I frequent.  most of them thought it would be an EASY stroll in the park for Mighty England.  Well, it didnt turn out that way, did it??  Hope we  both go thru.....
Mighty England thought it would be a stroll in the park too back in the 1770s when they came waltzing across the Atlantic in a vain attempt to give George, Mad Anthony and the rest of those boys what for. We all know how that turned out.

Number of shots yes. Because the field is bigger in football.

But goals.. I don't think so personally. Because primarily our football league plays a very slow dumbed down italian style of football. No one enjoys that. If we watch premier league or bundesliga.. its a lot more fun to watch.

Maybe I sound insensitive but its not the case at all. I do care!  But if I had to live my whole life based on how everyone might be sensitive to me.. I would not be living my life as I want it. So you can accept me and my flaws as I am or you can't.

Watching the Italians play is enough to put anyone off football

I remember in USA 94 the organizers wanted to make the goals wider to allow for more goals.

You fail to understand the attractions.

                  Hockey: for the fights

                  NASCAR: for the crashes

                  Football: for the cheerleaders

Basketball: for watching big black men beat on other big black men

                  Baseball: for drinking beer

Americans watch soccer when they want to see grown men wailing and in tears, collapsed in pain on the ground, because of a stubbed toe. It would be more popular if the History channel did a show highlighting " Famous Soccer Hooligan Brawls"

I love Cricket. Especially 5 day Test Matches It's a subtle game. Much like being in Court and stifling a guffaw when the judge makes a dry aside. It's an internal experience But I could totally understand those who didn't/couldn't get it.

To get back on topic, I now have a completely different mental image of those Soccer Moms

What were the odds? And what is the exchange rate for Viet dongs?

Cricket is a game that is great if your playing otherwise its like watching paint dry ..but it is subjective as i said before. Once your over 30 i doubt if the neurons like to be rewired for any other sport. I even tried to watch a match recently but it was a bit like being waterboarded.

I played Cricket and Baseball at school and it was great fun playing

I think you're right about the neurons...

Funny thing is I didn't play it much. At my school we had to play sport every Saturday. Cricket took all day, other summer sports (volleyball or basketball...) a few hours. I joined the basketball team. Never played that much either on account of there being 2 boys with the same surname and somehow mine got lost in the paper shuffle

I think most Sports are enjoyed if you been raised on them from a young age otherwise forget it... lifes far to short

I grew up watching football, then my family moved to the US and I've been more or less americanized, I can follow baseball but I can't stand basketball and nascar. Football I only really watch when it gets to conference championship games and superbowl times even though I cheer the giants JD.

I wish there was european football on TV here, I'd love to watch United vs Liverpool or both those teams games but I can't stand watching MLS. Its an insult to football. They have a long way to go before its that appealing.

P.S. Dave 20/20 is better than test.
