(Tomcat @ Jun. 14 2010,15:14) Goals are generally hard to get and therefore its a big deal when one is scored
But it really doesn't excuse dry rooting your team mate on the field

When a team that is supposed to beat you and you come away with a tie, and points you where not supposed to get it would be looked at as a moral victory, even though we know technically we didn't win, that''s why it says the greatest tie against the British since Bunker Hill. Bunker Hill is a Battle during the American revolution where technically The Americans lost, due to the fact they run out of ammunition and had to retreat giving up the hill to the British. Where the British had 1000 casualty a rate of almost 2 to 1 compared to Americans.(f0xxee @ Jun. 14 2010,15:42) Got to love that: USA Win 1-1.... the sub editor must have been mathematically deprived as a child....

I agree totally. To me, soccer would be worth watching, maybe, if there were no goalies. That could get the scores up to some exciting levels. Watching 22 guys kick a ball around a giant lawn for 90 minutes with most scores being 0-0, 1-0, 2-1, etc, does not really get me all that excited. It's like watching bull riding at a rodeo and none of the riders can stay on for the 8 seconds needed to get a score. That happened once at a rodeo back home. The stock was superior to the cowboys and not one bull rider out of 15 or so that day lasted 8 seconds even once. It is was a IPRA rodeo (IIRC,) though rather than a PRCA rodeo, which is the real major league of rodeo. That was akin to a 0-0 soccer game to me.(JaiDee @ Jun. 14 2010,05:44) I am guessing this is the main reason why Yanks have never gotten into this sport, I know it's the case for myself. Bumpa said in another thread that americans still haven't caught on to this game and he's right, despite what others in the world may now believe. Could low scoring be the cause?
Didn't watch one game today and won't again until friday;whereas if it was the American football playoffs I would be glued to every game.
I read that the bracket you Brits got into was named E-A-S-Y; England, Algeria, Slovenia and Yanks.
So how did it end up in a tie in the first game??
Otherwise, soccer is like watching a hamster run around in one of those wheels, or at best a cure for insomnia.
AMERICAN FOOTBALL!!! RODEO!!! HOCKEY!!! RUGBY!!! THOSE ARE SPORTS PLAYED BY THE REAL MEN.“When a nation's young men are conservative, its funeral bell is already rung.”

Agreed, but the Post front page is kind of embarrassing all the same.(bill520 @ Jun. 14 2010,17:52)When a team that is supposed to beat you and you come away with a tie, and points you where not supposed to get it would be looked at as a moral victory, even though we know technically we didn't win(f0xxee @ Jun. 14 2010,15:42) Got to love that: USA Win 1-1.... the sub editor must have been mathematically deprived as a child....
when I first saw it in this thread I thought it was a wind-up! Or they had made a mistake or something....shows how far we over here on the wrong side of the pond have to go to learning how to accept this sport and make it one of our own.
"World Cup fever'' is catching on somewhat; but I can guarantee you that once the USA loses out of this tournament {IF they lose?
} things will get back to normal around here and only immigrants will be watching the finals between teams X and Y while the rest of us wait for training camps to open.

Actually the only reason to explain the US not liking football is the anti-British sentiment of the 1776-1812's and false pride. Case in point, everyone says football needs more scoring.. yet they watch hockey which has lower scores than football in most cases or has in my lifetime until 2 years ago. Also how come the americans never play cricket. You get higher scores than basketball there and its much more entertaining than baseball.
Maybe I sound insensitive but its not the case at all. I do care! But if I had to live my whole life based on how everyone might be sensitive to me.. I would not be living my life as I want it. So you can accept me and my flaws as I am or you can't.

I beg to differ Tomcat. The most boring sport of all time is Nascar.

NEWSFLASH: That NY Post headline WAS a wind up!!! In this case a draw was considered a win as we were expected to get fuck all from the game. You should have seen this one Man City web site I frequent. most of them thought it would be an EASY stroll in the park for Mighty England. Well, it didnt turn out that way, did it?? Hope we both go thru.....Be careful out there!Comment
