  • Lack Of Goals

Well, 7 WCup matches in the book and there has NOT been more than 2 goals in any match-WTF?? Is it down to the "cagey" manner of the first match in your group or is there, indeed, less scoring in this edition of the WCup?? Anyone do/hear about the stats form the proceeding 3 or 4 WCups?? heres hoping for more goals. Depending on the results of the first group matches the dynamic for the 2nd and 3rd matches changes, doesnt it??
    Be careful out there!

    Patience!

Germany, Portugal, Spain, Netherlands, Brazil haven't played yet. England played against a very good defense, dare I say the best in the tournament. And Argentina just missed a lot.

Maybe I sound insensitive but its not the case at all. I do care!  But if I had to live my whole life based on how everyone might be sensitive to me.. I would not be living my life as I want it. So you can accept me and my flaws as I am or you can't.

      Pretty poor fare so far

Though Germany have been by far the most intertaining , the best game so far (who would have thought it ?)

Ozil reminds me of myself in my prime

Fair point Jake , the flair teams have yet to play .

Be careful what you wish for (at least in Australia's case anyway).

We just got walloped 4-0 by Germany this morning (AU time). To top it off our best player, Tim Cahill, got a red card and will miss the next match.

I'll be hapyy if 3 to 4 goals aren't scored in out next match because it will probably be the other team that scores them.

Yeah they showed a stat during the Oz-germany game and it went like this: last World cup 18 goals this World Cup 9 goals. This was BEFORE the Oz slaughter was completed.....

          Heres hoping form more goals!!

Dont worry Tom, it was the Ball's fault you lost 4-0 mate

Adidas, whom have invented the new Ball for this World Cup are getting criticised for making the Ball too ROUND.

isn't the ball supposed to be round?

And I think its just the keepers whining dave, any football enthusiast wants great goal scoring.

P.S. The Premier League should ban Nike and adopt the new adidas ball so no more hand of clod cases.

Well I always thought so   , but this Ball is supposed to be TOO ROUND

                Here you go Jake

"As with the Adidas Fevernova and Adidas Teamgeist at the two previous tournaments, the ball has received pre-tournament criticism, primarily from goalkeepers.

[6] Brazil goalkeeper Júlio César compared it to a "supermarket" ball that favored strikers and worked against goalkeepers.

[7] Other similar complaints came from Giampaolo Pazzini,

[8] Claudio Bravo[9] and Iker Casillas.[10] Italian keeper Gianluigi Buffon said, "it is very sad that a competition so important as the world championship will be played with such a horrible ball.

"[11] whilst Brazilian striker Luís Fabiano called the ball "supernatural", as it unpredictably changed direction when travelling through the air, adding that none of the players of the Brazilian squad, who are sponsored by rival manufactuer Nike, such as Júlio Baptista, reacted in favour of the ball.

[12] Joe Hart of England, after training with the ball for a number of days, said the "balls have been doing anything but staying in my gloves."[13]. He did, however, describe the ball as "good fun" to use, even though it is hard work for goalkeepers to cope with.

[14] It was suggested the ball behaved "completely different" at altitude by England coach Fabio Capello.

[15] Denmark coach Morten Olsen after their 1-0 friendly defeat at the hands of Australia said: "We played with an impossible ball and we need to get used to it."

[16] Brazilian striker Robinho stated, "for sure the guy who designed this ball never played football. But there is nothing we can do, we have to play with it.

"[17] English goalkeeper David James said that "the ball is dreadful. It's horrible, but it's horrible for everyone.

"[18] Marcus Hahnemann replied to the ballmaker Adidas saying that "Technology is not everything; scientists came up with the atom bomb, doesn't mean we should have invented it."

On the other hand, Alvaro Arbeloa came out in support of the ball commenting that "It's round, like always
                ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"[19] whilst American Clint Dempsey declared that "If you just hit it solid, you can get a good knuckle on the ball (...) you've just got to pay a little bit more, you know, attention when you pass the ball sometimes".

                [20]
Adidas has said that the ball had been used since January of 2010, and that most feedback from players had been positive. A spokesperson said the company was "surprised" by the negative reaction to the ball, and highlighted that the frequent pre-tournament criticism a new ball receives inevitably dies down as the tournament proceeds"

                WTF

                  Hi Dave,

I think the best Australia could hope for is the ball becomes oval overnight and the boys can pick the bastard up and run with it. Plenty of goals inside Australia's net.
Ah well the Aussie thumping should at least get the English press off the back of your goalie Mr Green. Poor chap. We all have shockers, he just had his at the worst possible moment.

I am guessing this is the main reason why Yanks have never gotten into this sport, I know it's the case for myself.  Bumpa said in another thread that americans still haven't caught on to this game and he's right, despite what others in the world may now believe.  Could low scoring be the cause?

Didn't watch one game today and won't again until friday;whereas if it was the American football playoffs I would be glued to every game.

I read that the bracket you Brits got into was named E-A-S-Y; England, Algeria, Slovenia and Yanks.

So how did it end up in a tie in the first game??

I'm still loving the US media coverage of their 'win' against England... yes, a 'win'. Maybe we need to explain the scoring-more-goals-than-them concept!

If all matches were suddenly 3-3 or 4-4 then no one would watch it as the currency of a Goal would be to low.  we have become conditioned to it in the footy world to expect low scores.

The occasional cricket score when it does happen usually means that the experts state that all tactics had been thrown out the window and that it resembles a game in the schoolyard...not all the time but most of the time.

Same in Formula One compared to Indy cars ar Nascar. Not many real overtaking manoveures inn F1 so when one does happen guys talk about it for years. Even Formula One tried to get more overtaking when they copied the Indcart pace car thing.

Goals are generally hard to get and therefore its a big deal when one is scored

Its all subjective of course and my opinion only
