Lovely show. I sometimes watch reruns of that on TNT. Its a timeless classic.

Maybe I sound insensitive but its not the case at all. I do care!  But if I had to live my whole life based on how everyone might be sensitive to me.. I would not be living my life as I want it. So you can accept me and my flaws as I am or you can't.

Alias Smith & Jones is still one of my faves and my childhood Saturdays were partly wasted on The Virginian!

Grandstand with Frank Bough would finish soon after my dad had studied the pools coupons, five minutes of news and weather, a Tom and Jerry Cartoon, The Pink Panther, Doctor Who then The Virginian...

At least that's how I remember it!

I used to LOVE that show when I was a kid! I watched it on it's original run on ABC, it was just becoming popular and then Peter Duel (the star) killed himself. They tried replacing him but the chemistry was never the same and the show went off the air after the 1 season without him.

Another show I loved back in those days was "Here Comes the Brides". I loved it because it was set in Seattle in the late 19th century. Bobby Sherman had a co-starring role and became a big pop singer (competed with Monkee Davey Jones for the girls attention back then). I loved it because it put Seattle on the map in the media and at the time, being 9 years old, it was a really big deal.

I really loved that series and watched every episode

I remember being absolutely "gutted" and cried when Pete Duel blew his own brains out

I will say the date ( and without genuinely looking it up ) was Dec 31st 1970, some dates just stick in your head and Pete Duel's death is one of them for me.

Dieter - the show was called "The Saint" in the English-speaking markets. What is "The 2"??

                      • Ah... "The Persuaders" is the one you're thinking of.

Which reminds me, I'm surprised no one has mentioned "I Spy" with Bill Cosby and Robert Culp. It was revolutionary in it's day (mid/late 1960's) for featuring a black man and a white man working together.

                          • Speaking of Columbo, does anyone remember where the series originated?

Back in the day (late 60's/early 70's) the concept of a "made for tv" movie was a brand new and exciting idea. Both ABC and NBC introduced "Movie Of the Week" series, with NBC creating a revolving series of "movies" called "The NBC Mystery Movie" which featured Columbo, McMillan and Wife (with Rock Hudson), and McCloud (with Dennis Weaver). These three revolved from week to week. In later seasons they introduced additional ongoing series such as "Heck Ramsey", "Banacek", "The Snoop Sisters" (with Helen Hayes) and "Quincy" with Jack Klugman, which became it's own series eventually.

Trivia note - as a 13 year old viewer in 1974, I was knocked out by Alice Coooper's appearance on an episode of Snoop Sisters ("The Devil Made Me Do It") where he performed "Sick Things" from Billion Dollar Babies in a cafe. It was my first exposure to The Coop and I rushed out and bought his "Greatest Hits" album and became a huge fan.
