some good shows mentioned already -- along with some terrible shows that some people inexplicably like -- and sometimes it's the same people who name one of the greats right next to a piece of trash. well, imho, anyway. at least no one's named 'the 700 club'. yet.
i'll add a couple of my own--as yet unnamed-- favorites:
best now: the daily show w/jon stewart
best ever: sports night.
(Snick @ Aug. 02 2010,20:47) What was that show with the talking car ?, that was cool.
Knight Rider.
Snick we seem to have similar tastes.
But I used to like Street Hawk also, a knight rider bike version instead of the car.
Maybe I sound insensitive but its not the case at all. I do care! But if I had to live my whole life based on how everyone might be sensitive to me.. I would not be living my life as I want it. So you can accept me and my flaws as I am or you can't.
Some of the oldies I liked were ALL IN THE FAMILY and MASH!! FAMILY was a classic, groundbreaking show. It was brilliant. Loved Mr. Ed.
PD only someone like you would remember Crime Story. To be certain you talking about the one with dennis farina and set in Chicago, right?? That show is NEVER on in rerun on the 187 channels on my New York cable system-DOH!!
How about hawaii Five-O?? That Steve MaGarret was a badass!!!
How about Hunter? That show kicked ass as long as McCall was there.

IMO, the most successful and one of the longest TV series was Gunsmoke. Most of the kids here probably never heard of it or ain't seen it.
It was on the air for 20 years and 635 episodes. One cool thing about seeing reruns of Gunsmoke is so many actors who later went on to be big names, were guest stars on Gunsmoke. It's fun trying to recognize them younger than most probably remember them. Amongst the early guest stars were Charles Bronson. Leonard Nimoy, Ed Asner and Cloris Leachman. Far too many more to ever name them all here.

"Inflexibility is the worst human failing. You can learn to check impetuosity, overcome fear with confidence and laziness with discipline. But for rigidity of mind, there is no antidote. It carries the seeds of its own destruction." ~ Anton Myrer
My dad still watches reruns of Gunsmoke on AMC. It is still popular indeed.

Your bang on BB, Chicago and then Las Vegas starring Dennis Farina
