He was also famously upset that the Beach Boys were playing for free on the Mall in DC because he felt they represented an anti American rock & roll ethos,  ffs  

When that got out other members of the Reagan admin persuaded RR to very publically compliment the Beach Boys & invite them back to play free 4th of July concerts on the Mall several years running. The publicity was actually quite a boost to their dimming fortunes.

I suppose Sarah Palin would be the modern day equivalent to Jim W in many ways. He shot from the lip too.......

well, I really hate to burst everyone's bubble here, but being a mite older than most of you, I do recall this remark, well, recall reading about it in the papers anyway, cant now for the life of me recall where i had finally tracked down the actual joke, none of the media obviously carried it verbatim, probably Playboy, it wasa guy named Earl Butz, Ford's secretary of something or other, a google/wiki search should instantly make the rest of you more enlightened

p.s.---still to this day cant understand all the brouhaha, is there a man alive who doesn't still seek this?

YOU are keerect sir! I think I may be older than you tho since I would never have remembered the name Earl Butz, t'was lost in the smoke of time, but that rings a bell. (I think he was Ag?)

No matter who's in power it's always entertaining to watch some of the appointees flame out so spectactularly when they rise just a little higher than they ever should have. BP's Tony Hayward being the most recent one.
