(deepthroat @ Jun. 05 2010,11:53) Shouldn't this thread simply be titled "Things I'm Completely Ignorant Of But Willing To Slag Off Anyway"
I'm saving that title for the Israel thread!

Funny how some of us are absolutely convinced that our lives aren't complete unless they have seen some of these films.

Come on, Jake - Batman movies? The best 5 hours you'll ever spend? Cristian Bale is only marginally more animated than Kevin (The Tree) Costner.

To add to my list... Never seen... 'Full Metal Jacket', 'Southern Comfort' or 'Apocalypse Now' and any of those sad "We lost the war but won a few battle!" type films.

Thought about 'Apocalypse Now' because of Dennis Hopper, but just never found the time.

I've never seen Mary Poppins, or Gone With The Wind.

I did see Casablanca though. VERY good IMO. Hard to fault any Bogart movie. Too bad he died so young, 57, after smoking and drinking himself to death. He was a very intelligent man. Had to be to be a near master class chess player. Some of he smartest people though, still have their weaknesses.

        (ezflip @ Jun. 05 2010,10:19) Titanic.
Funny, that's what immediately came to mind when I saw the title of the thread. And appears I have company.

I love the look on the faces of people who love the film when I tell them I've never seen it. Classic.

I agree that Titanic was an over-hyped piece of melodramatic nonsense. We all know how sad the sinking was but to combine it with a sentimental love story was more than I could bear.

But James Cameron did create a helluva spectacle that was lost on the small screen. I caught the last 20 minutes on TV & was shocked at how uninspiring it looked.

Sitting in the cinema, the effect was completely different. And the same can be said for the original Star Wars movie. I am not advocating anyone wants to rush out now to see it but the only people I met who didn't like it had only seen it on a small screen.

It would be interesting if every comment, good or bad, could include whether it was watched in the cinema or at home. I suspect a pattern would emerge among the block buster movies.

(f0xxee @ Jun. 05 2010,11:36) Movies I haven't watched and have no intention of watching:
              Gone with the Wind.
              Casablanca
Star Wars (Revenge of the Gonads, episodes 1-39)
Your loss. I loved all 3. Seriously.

Gone With the Wind is long but you will only understand the fuss when you watch it. It was dated when I saw it but it is still great entertainment.

Casablanca - what's not to love? Modern day sitcoms feature more sophisticated sets but the cast of characters in this will stay with you forever. And the wonderful lines - "Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine."

That's only one of many. You're a sentimental bastard, I bet you would like it.

Star Wars. Take every cinematic element ever deployed on the big screen, throw them all together, set it in the future, add a fantastic sound track & this was the result. But stop after the original picture. I did.

(kahuna @ Jun. 05 2010,10:41) ...But once I finally saw Lost in Translation it became one of my all time favorites...
I do regret not seeing Lost in Translation. People whose opinion I trust recommended it to me in the strongest language. I keep waiting to catch it on TV. One day I will.

As someone else mentioned, the Star Wars and Star Trek movies (or even one episode of the Star Trek series). What's funny is that you know all the characters names and the actors that played them, as they are part of pop culture.

I did see Sex and the City 1, as I thought it was great when they drove of the cliff into the Grand Canyon. You didn't know if they lived or died but I guess they lived, as SATC2 answered that question.

                    Oh, great, like, thanks a lot . . . Now I don't have to go see it . . .

But there are still great car chases, gun fights and a wicked cool underwater scene where all 4 girls dive and try to plug an oil well that is at least a mile deep.  They plug it with tampons.

(kahuna @ Jun. 05 2010,10:41) For example...I could never imagine Bill Murray nominated for an Oscar for best actor...But once I finally saw Lost in Translation it became one of my all time favorites...And certainly not for Bill's great acting...But for the strange simplicity of the film and the creativity of it's author and director Sofia Coppola...
Can't claim ignorance on this one, but I can claim authenticity . . . Some of those interactions with Murray and the locals? I see them replayed every day . . .

My appreciation for the film grew when I watched it again after being in-country a couple years. As Eddie Murphy impersonating a man of Italian descent would say, "Goood fuuuckin' mooovie..." (which isn't to say a man of Italian descent would or wouldn't like the movie. Not that there's anything wrong with that . . . )

Oh no, ohnoriceagain, you are praising what is arguably the worst movie ever made, Sex & the City 2. And I can say that even if it is a new release.

Read this hilarious review from Lindy West of The Stranger in Seattle. Her caustic remarks are being quoted around the globe. This is good...

Nope. I'm going for the brunette (not the one who looks like a horse, the other one).

Bill Murray does great " " never more so than in Lost..

A few real stinkers have been mentioned here...and as we have a few Movie related threads going, I wonder whether we could have a Stinkers thread too or just merge... Favourite/Worst Stinkers ? Not famous, just that they stink..

I'm thinking Travolta in that Hubbard classic Battlefield Earth
