(anthony70 @ Mar. 20 2010,21:43) a lot of people wouldnt mind swapping places with me, thats for sure.
When I travel I don't get that quite as much, because for the most part hippies and my fellow travelers are a pretty happy lot. But man, in the states people are just freaking miserable, especially coming off another long winterEven a broken clock is right twice a day.

Took the plunge and no regrets...
Life is what you make it... I made mine great!
The way I see it you can divide your life up like this...
First 20 years don't count as you have no control over them.
Your 20s is just a decade of disastrous decisions.
Your 30s is trying to fix those bad decisions and setting your self up for your future.
Your 40s are FUCKING GREAT!
Dunno what happens after that. When I find out I'll report back on this thread!SHEMALE.CENTER

Seems like B.S. Goes with the life begins at 40 bit, so half your life is a no no ? come on man you dont expect me to believe that. Apart from that we seem a very contented lot
From the age of 8 i was on the road with my folks in Europe, I left home in 67 and have been on the road since, returning just twice to the U.K. to bury the folks. I've never had cash of any significance and feel if i had it would have fucked my life. As a guy once said. "when you aint got nothin you got nothin to loose"
And I have to say, looking at the place today, I wouldn't want to be 20 again and just starting out in life.
Hand on heart time ex pats, would you stay in Thailand if there were no L.B.scene. I live around Asia the whole year and find a month at a time more than enough to cope with in Thailand and wouldn.t go near the place if there were no scene.
Very Best I.K. :

Still here, though...
Other places are too expensive or too cold. Plus - here there is no Big Brother fucking up every move you make.

Find other interests, and you may enjoy the country even more; there are tons of beautiful beaches, waterfalls, nice people and good weather to be had, not to mention great scenery; I was in the Krabi-Phangna region last month with my daughter just driving around looking at the karst formations and it was breathtaking. Saying I ''wouldn.t go near the place if there were no scene''; man, you are just short-changing yourself of the whole experience of a gorgeous country, which is also super-cheap compared to anywhere in the west. What do you do around the rest of Asia which keeps you happy when you are not in Thailand? And, surely you can do that same stuff in Siam, no?
Hand over heart; Of course I would stay there without any type of ladyboy scene, that is just a very small part of what makes the country unique.Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Everyone has different tastes and interests; but one thing anyone who reads here can agree on is that Thailand generally makes us happy; for whatever reasonsEven a broken clock is right twice a day.

It seems to me that you asked the question and are dissapointed to find that a lot of us are firstly happy, and secondly living happily in Thailand, and not only for the LB factor.
Your comment that "if you ain't got nothing you got nothing to lose" sounds profound when sprayed on a bus-stop wall, but on reflection could be seen as shallow. Even the materially poor have pride, dignity, love, health, friendships, family and wisdom to value.
Your comment that if life begins at 40 means that half your life is a no no suggests you miss the point. Getting to 40 for most men, I won't say all, is a journey of learning: the getting of wisdom. This by it's nature means ther will be mistakes made, and painful failures.
Speaking for myself I saw my teens as the years of insecurity and angst, 20's as my angry young man stage, falling in love and getting broken hearted, and the realization that neither the lord, nor nature would provide for me: I had to do it myself.
The 30's were a time of hard work and consolidation.
I am now in my late 40's and where more or less I want to be. I wish my body didn't let me down so much, as the aches and pains are more apparent, as are the fact that I need reading glasses to type this and my teeth are fucked.
But I am happy... because I have the wisdom to know contentment when it stares me in the face and I've stopped looking for the next big thrill.
Does this mean my first 40 years were unhappy? No. They were a mixed bag. Terrific memories and wonderful friendships and great adventures.
But contentment has really begun for me in the last 2 years.
As for whether I would live in LOS if it were not for LB's... Yes I would. There is a parallel thread running describing the cost of living in LOS compared to the West. That is one good reason. Plus the fact that the weather is warm, the infrastructure more than acceptable and the banking and finance sectors workable. Also the people are incredibly generous of spirit given the bunch of big nosed falangs crashing and bumping and burping and fighting and spewing and shouting all over thier fair country. Tell me somewhere better to live and I would. Rule out Anywere else in Asia cos I have.
Cheers!f0xxee

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn:
One should never direct people towards happiness, because happiness too is an idol of the market-place. One should direct them towards mutual affection. A beast gnawing at its prey can be happy too, but only human beings can feel affection for each other, and this is the highest achievement they can aspire to.
Alexandre Dumas:
There is neither happiness nor misery in the world; there is only the comparison of one state to another, nothing more. He who has felt the deepest grief is best able to experience supreme happiness. We must have felt what it is to die, that we may appreciate the enjoyments of life.
I looked for a nice quote to replace my post & I liked both these. So here's 2 for the price of one...Despite the high cost of living, it continues to be popular.
