(Lefty @ Feb. 12 2010,14:58) I personally like A Bronx Tale but didn't think it would get many votes here.
That'll get my vote too brother Lefty , a great movie

I think he directed A Bronx Tale as well , great role reversal in that movie were he plays the family man , the hard working bus driver trying to bring his son up properly in a tough neighbourhood and keep him away from the local wiseguys .

"The working man is the tough guy " brilliant line .

I pretty much love all his old movies , my top 10 would probably have about 5 DeNiro movies in it .
Seems like I read once he considered A Bronx Tale to be semi autobiographical.

DeNiro has always shown a strong preference for black women or women of color in his personal life and I considered it not a coincidence that the young Italian guy who is the central character, has a black girl as his love interest.

I love Chazz Palminteri in it too. IMO, no one plays a gangster or mafioso type better than Chazz.

Just checked on wiki and my memory is lacking. The movie was written by Chazz and based on his childhood, rather than DeNiro.

Just read in The Times today that Scorsese is thinking of making a sequel to Taxi Driver bringing the Travis story up to modern day , apparently DeNiro has been keen on this for a number of years now .

Not sure how this would work out but it would be interesting , surely he still couldn't be a taxi driver 35 years on .
Free your mind and your ass will follow .

Two not on the list for me.
First is "The Mission", classic tortured soul flick which, of course, DeNiro pulls off with true aplomb.
Second is "Ronin" and that is basically because of one scene with Sean Bean who plays a wannabe SAS type who asks DeNiro if he has ever killed anyone, DeNiro looks at him for a second then says "NO, but I hurt someones feelings once." Classic.

My choice is also Taxi Driver; excellent movie that definitely raised some eyebrows when it came out. Next is Jackie Brown...and then Ronin.

Based on Awards and Nominations, in retrospect I should have included: Once Upon a Time in America, Falling in Love, Awakenings, The King of Comedy, New York New York, Midnight Run, Analyze This, and Meet The Parents.

Just wasn't enough room when we only get ten choices in a poll and one needs to be saved for Other or None of the Above.

Yeah,I saw taxi driver "accidentally",and I had no idea what it was about before I saw it.I was astounded by that first viewing, and ive seen it a few times since.I cant remember an anti-hero to rival de niro's character.I think a lot of people can identify with him in the film,I know I certainly could.
He had a great part in Goodfellas also, but Joe Pesci and Ray Liotta share the honours in that for me.I like De Niro in almost everything he does, hes the daddy!

Way too hard for me just to pick one and I cant believe I've never seen Once Apon A Time In America!

My roles I least enjoyed however seem to be the 'lighter' roles he's played...

You should definitely see Once Upon A Time In America it was directed by Sergio Leone(the guy who did all the Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns) a great jewish gangster movie not your typical sicilian mafia movie ,but still great. IMHO though I think James Woods makes this movie he has some great one liners although Deniro is probably the main character in the film.

Taxi Driver. In a supporting role, The Good Shepherd - a great film.
