Good for US farmers, bad for Haiti.
This is a good point and summarizes very well US politics in the last 100 years, but especially in the last 30 years.
But let's not focus on farmers, one could just say "good for the US, bad for the others".

The book about the "economic hitman" (check other threads) is spot on.

Without doubt, western countries have been behaving evilly.

But... can the american or european lifestyle be upheld without keeping many other countries in poverty?

    Personally, I don't think so.

Westerners will have to realize that simple factory workers aren't entitled to owning a car, a house or even a TV.

Let foreign agricultural products flow freely into the USA and watch as Us farmers become relatively poor and foreign farmers can buy cars and houses.

UN rescuers describe terrible Haiti ordeal...

"The beer was warm, the wi fi wasn't always working, my FaceBook account was blocked, it was a nightmare... oh and some horrid poor people died because they were too lazy to pick up the tons and tons of food and supplies locked away in our compound. Honestly - you'd think these people would meet us halfway, right?"

The United Nations... A global shame.

They need more machetes down there
My own belief is that there is hardly anyone whose sexual life, if it were broadcast, would not fill the world at large with surprise and horror.  ~W. Somerset Maugham

Certainly not PC, but there's some truth here.

If there was an earthquake in Genoa or Geneva, the cultural influences would make it easier to aid the victims.
