Five years ago, my first trip to LOS, first night in Chiang Mai, came across a cool little open-air bar. I immediately took a shine to one of the bartenders (a GG), who had the most unfiltered, radiant smile.

Everyone was all too happy to point out that "she virgin" (despite being 27 yrs old).  And in doing so, it became clear to me what the others were, and that she was a novelty, as well as the sister of the manager.  

In a momentary lapse of stupidity, I said something that charmed her.  And we spent the next two months together.  As time went on it got more and more difficult to hide our affection in the bar.  When the truth started to become clear, a sort of sea change washed over the bar -- when she was a virgin she was like the mascot, but now that she was not (and was not immediately willing to join their ranks), it became some sort of reflection on them.  And I became "farangbah," the bad foreigner.

On what was to be my final night in town, she showed up at my door early, when she should have been at work.  As soon as she saw me she burst into tears, and my egocentric mind thought, "aw, look how despondent she is at my departure."  

After a lot of crying and as much confusion, it eventually became clear that word of her devirginization had made it to her sister, and that, apparently had been what she was waiting for.  Without hesitation, big sis sat her down, and said, in effect, "OK, no more excuses.  It's time you started earning for the bar, and your family.  I plied my ass for years in Phuket, and your sisters and I can't carry you any longer.  You gotta start spreading your legs *to support mom and dad*."

I spent the next several days with her, trying to console her, she hiding from the world, not eating or moving much, her "friends" having turned their backs on her, her sister wanting to pimp her.  Eventually, at her request, I brought her to the monastery I had studied and stayed at, wanting to get her head straight.  

And that's the last I saw of her.  I got a returned email a while later that said her sister had come to the monastery to smooth things over.  And that's the last I ever heard from her.  

So, I am "farangbah", in a sort of odd homage, in remembrance of her.

However, I say "innocently" as I received quite a few shall we say "not so nice" comments from some of the    members here when I first joined this Forum back in 2005

I was a bit "baffled" to as of why until I learn't they thought my username was a reference to this character

I tend to forget my username for sites if I get creative, so I just use my initials. I have one of those long names that parents in the American South tend to curse their kids with.

So Farangbah, is your Japanese name Gaijinbaka? LOL

I would agree with you there manarak but I have been a member here for 5 years next month and other BM's know me well by this username and often call me daveduke when we meet, and any similarity to that other "twat" has been well and truly "quashed"

Great story farangbah.

Mine is from the time I would spend on BBS forums (remember those?). It was the start of software swapping/cracking/hacking before the internet that we use now. I was using an Apple IIe with a phone cradle to connect to different BBS, a la Wargames.

'Easy to flip' the software from one country to another was my modus. Shorten to ezflip as it uses 6 letters, the restriction on some BBS.

ezflip, I hate to admit this, because it is showing my age, but while you were on your Apple II, I was on my Commodore 64 with its lightning fast 1200 (yes, 1200) speed modem downloading porn pics in glorious 16 colors. Of course that meant I started the download in the morning before I went to Junior High, and it would be finished by the time I got home from school, but hey, porn, before there was an internet, lol.

At the time everyone had a TO-70 or a ZX Spectrum, I had an EXL 100. I also remember Sinclair and Amstrad CPC128...

A friend had an Apple IIgs and then I got an Amiga.
And at some point I made my entry into the world of PCs with a 80386 DX33
