I'm obviously only getting part of the story out in Thailand but there does seem to have been serious failings by the Chain of Command. Mind you we now live in a culture of 'Who can we blame' as opposed to 'What went wrong'.

No matter what comes out of this, it remains a tragedy that he committed these crimes (Note: NOT terrorist acts) and 13 people are dead, something that we can't turn the clock back on.

STOP PRESS: Sen Lieberman is calling for a Congressional Investigation into the incident, strange how they didn't do it after Columbine, Virginia Tech or any of the other schools on this list. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/School_shooting http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8349413.stm

Personally I find some of the comments by Robbo and BB racist but that's the Mod's call. As for lblavr's post - it doesn't even warrant a reply.

Ideally, "what went wrong" makes a strong governmental/corporate/personal culture.

I get the impression that the Obama administration leans more towards "what went wrong" than most administrations but most task forces/administartions don't want the truth to be made public, as Colonel Jessep said, "You can't handle the truth" and more importantly everyone will try to shade the truth to their personal advantage.

The blame game is almost impossible to avoid.  I know in the corporate culture that I was part of, rule one was to CYA.

So calling someone wrong for suggesting we smear someone in pig grease and stick a grenade up their ass makes one a political left winger does it? If you agree with what he posted that makes you just as much an idiot, Mod or not. You guys are so up your own asses with this left/right wing shit it's no wonder this sort of thing happens and when it does you all act as if everyone is a godless panty waist pinko swine. OK this guy is STILL a serving major in the US Army. If he shot 13 Taliban and then was captured and smeared with pig grease and had a grenade stuffed up his ass you'd start bombing. Calley was responsible for 104 deaths (only charged with 6 though)- but thats OK, even according to the Nixon. I guess it's because he wasn't a Muslim, and they were godless Commie sympathizers.

It's a shame this is gonna turn into another 'Your either with us or against us' debate- one day you're gonna wake up and smell the roses. I still stand by my statement that his comment was wrong- if you want to hide behind banning me for criticizing a Mod- fill your boots. I guess it would be 'Democracy' in action!!!

As far as I'm concerned a Mod shouldn't be making inflammatory statements like that in the first place. If it's OK to do that though I guess I'm allowed a platform as well.

The shooter is awake and talking to doctors. This is going to be a whole legal mess if he recovers fully.

Lets just hope the shooter recovers great, so he can stand trial and then face the executioner in good health. Unless they say he is not crazy he will never get executed, and if they say he is crazy some really high higher ups n the military and DOD will be in a heap of crap. Either way there is ghoing to be a big mess.

SOme channels on TV have been sshowing that they have linked him to Al Quaida from back as far as when he was a memeber of the mosque in Virginia, and the FBI were given details back then, and never did the first bit of investigation on it. So from all talk on the tube its most likely goping to be found a terrorist attack.

Take it for what its worth since its heard on the TV form assholes that think they are reporters and newscasters, and most of their info if from congressmen and senators that just like to ramble on and get air time.

I wonder if its confirmed a terrorist attack will he avoid the death penalty, cause if you think about it the guys held in Gitmo are Al Qaeda and classed as enemy combatants being held without trial so they dont return to the "battlefield". So there could be a good argument that he would fall into that category as an enemy combatant in a war/jihad against the US.

                    I don't think so...

All the reports I have read are suggesting that he will face trial in either federal or military court and both courts provide for the death penalty...Which court he eventually faces trial in, depends on how he is charged...As a terrorist...federal court...or that he acted alone...military court...

It appears, however,  that neither are every swift in handing out justice...

There was a moratorium in the federal system since 1963...That moratorium was lifted by Bush in 2001 as I recall and two convicted murders has since been executed...

Most analysts are saying that he will more likely be tried in military court which also provides for the death penalty, however, the last military execution was performed in 1961...

Unfortunately it appears that he will die of old age in prison before he is zapped...

EDIT: In my opinion, it's unfortunate that they can't execute him 13 times...

Of course its a "terrorist" act. Eyewitnesses said he was screaming, "Allah Akbar" as he was murdering. It makes me sick....Its now coming out that this piece of dreck made or attempted to make contact Al Qaeda. Perhaps he is just misunderstood and all those rabid racists in the US Military made him do it................................If it were up to some of you lot we would ahve fought WW II by the Marquis of Queensbury rules.

A Muslim acting alone is even scarier than an organized terrorism.

The Western powers can combat organized terrorism but we have no defense against aginst crazed loonies.

Ahhhhhhhhhh trial by media- gotta love it. Washington Post article coming out that he had 'contact' with a cleric who had 'sympathy' towards Al Quaida. Why don't we wait for the agencies who apparently had that info late last year to expand on it- it would appear they thought it was inconsequential. Millions of people cry out Allah Akbar every day- only one pulled a trigger at Fort Hood. It doesn't mean all the Muslims around the word should be tarred with the same brush. Using that arguement implies all Catholic priests are Child Molesters.

Some people here see to feel I am a lilly livered terorist lover. 25 years in the military and a fist full of medals might dispute that fact. Try him and fry him- I have no issue with that, but lets not let hysteria get in the way of justice. Incidentally the Washington Sniper has lost his final appeal and is due to be executed tomorrow- I can live with that.

Just curious about this whole military death sentence issue and checked abit online and there is currently six soldiers on death row in Fort Leavenworth and the last one to receive the death sentence in a military court was in 2001 for 2 murders, 1 attempted murder, and 3 rapes charges. So this guy surely will get the chair for 13 murders, but somehow I think this whole muslim terrorist thing is going to be a big legal debate on whether he should get it or not. All military death sentences have to be approved by the President before hand. Dubya was the last one to do so.

Last military execution in the US was in 1961 by hanging. If used today the preferred method is lethal injection. Hasan Akbar is waiting for an automatic appeal to his death sentence from what i can find. The one approved for execution by Bush was issued a stay for further appeals in 2008. Whatever the outcome it's gonna be a few yars before any execution if he makes it to trial and is convicted. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki....ishment
