Hey I'm a Londoner so I understand the whole big city thing. I just think that all ideas should be in the public domain and let the public decide what's best for them. Kind of like the old quote "I don't believe in what your saying but I'll die defending your right to say it." Bad ideas tend to die pretty quickly under public scrutiny. If fox is so wrong and stupid let it die it's own natural death. It's kind of like a darwinism of the mind.

To this day I have yet to find one redeeming feature of fox news. A sad reflection of some aspects of american culture

(Tomcat @ Oct. 24 2009,05:02) (in Thailand i have Bloomberg on most of the time .. a great channel)
That's what I watch the most though back home though I find CNBC more entertaining and I'd give up ladyboys if Erin Burnett would sleep with me and support me.

In one sense the business channels are unbiased since they are trying to predict market moves based on new information.

But both Bloomberg and CNBC have a bullish bias, it's good for their business to be bullish.

Can you USA guys clear something up? Fox (the spin begins here) is only available on pay for view cable?? ?? In other words it's market is limited by those with the money to pay to watch a cable package?? How many people in the USA only get "free to air", or do most people have "cable"/Sky or something similar??

Another point raised by TomCat. Fox (the spin begins here) IS funny to watch, with Mr CoxComb (O'Reily) and Coulter (who happens to own quite a few cool cars) but they LIE, and unless you are up with what is really going on the viewer is going to get a very biased news stream, if they are your only source.

ok, I'll be honest. At first I avoided this thread just because I know how big the diffrence could be.

To start with I will admit, I am not that educated so if I don't speak as elegantly as most here, I apologize.

maybe I got where I am because I'm lucky or because I live in this country,  I can't answer that.

Personally,  I think "fox" is full of "shoot" and %100 to the right, with very little or no room for anything but what the corperation wants to push for.

as far as rush, glen, or sean.  Well imho,  it all comes down to rateings because it's television, or radio. It's all about the ratings.

as far as fox reflecting "the views of inbread west virginian hillbillies"  I do agree with that thought,  the thing that concerns me is that %90 of the people that I know think that "fox" says all truth.

Because all they know is what they have been told and taught,  including all my relation, and as much as I try to tell them to be open to all options,   Rush seems to be a "GOD' and the anti gay and anti white seems to be believed by most that I know.

I'm not saying one side is right and one side is wrong,  I fail to see why people and political parties can't seem to find a happy medium.

IMO,   the sucess of a nation depends on keeping most of the people happy and the economic portion happy as well.

While this may be a "big dream"  I know that it is impossible to make everyone happy,  some one will always be pissed off.

It seems to me that now here in this country there is no room for comprimise,  and the is where the problems begin.

in my personal opinion, and I apologize for any of my misspellings

            Thanks

Tourot-Fox is available only on cable TV (or satelite) for that matter. In a sense you do "pay" for it. But thats the same for CNN, CNBC, MSNBC et al. Thise stations are only on cable and they must be on 99, if nit 100% of cable systems. The majority of people in the USA have cable TV or some equivalent.

I do watch Fox on occasion. those of you who know me will vouch that I can hold a semi intelligent conversation and have an intelect a bit higher than a West Virginia hillybilly-I HOPE!! I have it on record that even Smuttley said he respected me. I am in Thailand now and I do not have access to Fox. there are so many points to make and so little time.

I absolutely cracked up at the poster who was hailing NPR as a bastion of unbiased reporting. Thats as laughable as thinking Fox is fair and balanced. Some of you sound like outright elitist snobs like your shit doesnt stink. pigdog mentioned that The NY Times just represents the Manhattan view. Could that be the reason why they are in the toilet?? At least one of them anyways.

If you dont think there has been a left bias for many years on the "big 3" CBS, NBC and ABC news, then there is really no point in continuing. Up until about 25 years ago, the three networks dominated TV news with their 22 minutes broadcasts. My have things changes since then. Then came along Ted Turners (now theres a whackjob) CNN, then MSN, CNN headline and a couple of others. Then Uncle Rupert and Roger Ailes dreamt up Fox. So what? Fox was and still is a rection to all the other visual media outlets.

The big thing I want to know from you lot is what would you do with Fox. I think Alan basically said that if you dont like it, then change the channel and ignore as a citizen. Would you ban it?? Attempt to control it with silly, and dangerous IMHO, fair doctrine laws?? One of the reasons the left hates Foxs so muxh is that it has had basically a media monopoly for years and years. Now it has been broken up and there is another voice, they are screaming like a bunch of little bitches. For some "open minded" people I think they show a high level of intolerance.

When i am back in America I do admit I usually watch OReilly. yeah hes loud obnoxious and a blowhard. Dnt agree with all of his ideas and segemtns but i think he makes a lot of valid points. I brought up some recent stories he did in on previous thread but no one responded. I watched him quite a bit and he has bent over backwards to be fair to the president.

In conclusion there are a lot of other points to make but I gotta go ahve some breakfast.....

              BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!!!

I'd like to compliment O'Reilly for not being as much of a BIG FAT LIAR as Rush.

There. I've made my one nice thing to say about anything to do with Faux News for this year.

BlueBallz....you hit the nail right on the head!!! The left has controlled the media for DECADES and since Fox came along and spoke to middle America and the conservatives...and scored in the ratings, the liberals are crying and whining. The liberal media wants to get rid of all opposition because their viewpoints cannot stand the light of day. Under scrutiny, you can see the holes in all liberal arguments and the liberals hate criticism. They cannot respond to it....they just whine and whine.

I can't take notice when someone else gets deleted? Geez...you want to control everything and everyone so they don't dare speak up?

I'll be waiting for your impending posts under one of those other names so it looks like there are several people who think like you. Its either that or deletion eh? Only difference is I'm not trying to fool people.

This is The FISH BOX. The place wisely set aside by the founders of this great institution to discuss all things not lb related.

For those who do not care to read or participate, I don't think there is anyone forcing them to do otherwise.

Nothing.  We have a free press.  If I don't like I don't have to watch.  Or I can beeaatch about it on a transexual discussion forum.

And yes, I think the major networks are somewhat left leaning.   So is NPR.

But Fox is so over the top.   I think the "fair and balanced" slogan is what really galls some of us.

IMO the English version of Al Jazeera seems to be far more "fair and balanced" than Fox.  Though the "real Americans" to which Fox panders would just call me some Commie pinko faggot for saying that and tell me to get the fuck out of their god fearing cuntry.

I enjoy listening to a well articulated right wing view.  Always enjoyed listening to Pat Buchannan on the McLaughlin Report.

I don't like knee jerk lefties either.   Big government can be very inefficient.

Rockerfeller Repubs think that what's good for General Motors is good for America.  To an extent that's true and the Paulson bailouts perhaps prevented the whole house of cards from tumbling down which would have hurt everyone.

But these Rock Repubs are OK with enriching themselves at the expense of the middle class.

                                1)  Why should the big boys be able to get in on an IPO while I have to wait to the first trading day and pay 20% more?

                                2)  Why is exhorbitant executive compensation condoned by boards of directors that are asshole buddies of the ceo and justified by consulting firms that are hired by the boards and be fired if they don't play ball?

                                3) Why do the super rich get tax breaks such that they're paying less tax than the average Joe?

                                4) Why is OK for young Americans to make the ultimate sacrifice in wars in which america is not directly threatened?

Of course the Rock Repubs could not push this stuff through themselves.  The "invisible government" of special interests, including Dems,  makes sure that the rich get more than their fair share.  Goldman Sachs always hedges their bets; Democrats Rubin and Corzine were both top dogs at GS.

Innovators such as Steve Jobs deserve their riches.  But most of the lawyers, bankers, consultants, and lobbyists are not contributing any real value to our society.  We need more doctors and engineers and less paper pushers.

But it seems middle class anger is more often directed at some immigrant just trying to feed his family rather than the extremely powerful special interests.

But Fox isn't pandering to Rock Repubs, they are probably watching Bloomberg or CNBC.

Fox is pandering to the social conservatives who are allied with the Rock Repubs.

Just rambling, some thoughts, and don't feel like editing for cohesion.
