As to the original topic, as someone posted their lack of assimilating the culture of europe is rather sad; although Jewish people tend to keep their own traditions as well, no?

Yeh, because I said that, I must be an anti-semite. Was there anything negative in what I said.
There are real anti-semites out there, save the name calling for them.
I am an american WASP of dutch descent if that helps you in putting me down rather than contributing to meaningful discussion.

(pacman @ Aug. 09 2009,05:29) WTF! I think the Crusades are a great example of the type of level headed thinking we need today.
That statement along with the Muslim extremists view point would take the world into WW3.Be lucky, have fun & stay young !

And how would you characterise the Crusades? A brutal & unnecessary invasion on a gentle race of people?
Please, learn the history of what it was really about. The Crusaders defeated the 2nd Islamic Uprising. They were there to stop Saladin from expanding the Muslim empire & liberate Jerusalem.
I have written some things you might call bollox but this wasn't one of them.
And as to WW3, we won't need to provoke the extremists to start that. One day they will detonate a nuclear device in the west (think London or New York) & it will be on.Despite the high cost of living, it continues to be popular.

Well done Paccers, i agree  100%.  Its pretty much a schoolkid excercise to build a dirty bomb and it is going to happen... just a matter of when .
What the Daily Telegraph is alluding to is that European culture and that would included culture, highbrow and the rest , may be not be something  that be taken for granted in the very near future.... the very near future
Whatever ones Philosophical posistion on Religeon, Ethics, race etc etc the reality is that there is going to be some almighty friction in the not to distant future and all the reasoning in the world is not going to change the fact that the shit will hit the fan at some point...
My view is that Demographics is in fact the biggest problem that the Politicians wont face. The Planet can only sustain around 3 Billion people in the longer term

I think two in three in the UK do not tie the knot within their own faith.

Religious extremism, fundamentalism and tribalism are ridiculous - whatever your colour, creed or background
Most people will vigorously defend their own "tribe". A lot of people here would be just as vigorous a defender of Islam if they were muslims. Not because any one side is better/more tolerant/etc but because it's their side
If you foster a them and us situation, there will be conflict
Simple as
I know many irish people who are virulently anti-english and will furnish you with many reasons as to why this is the right viewpoint. The very same people, if they were english, would be the stoutest defender of England. Silly !
Please note that in early medieval europe the Muslim kingdom of Andalusia was far more tolerant of other religions than any of the "christian" kingdoms and they had the largest jewish community. When the Spanish reclaimed Spain, they left in large numbers to settle in the relative safety/freedom of the Ottoman Empire - which is why there is still a ladino-speaking minority in Turkey to this day
What's the point of a thread where everybody is of the same 'tribe" and want to condemn another one? May as well create a thread entitled "I like sex" and watch everyne agree
them and us
them and us
them and us
blah blah bah ...... broken fucking record timeNo honey, no money!!

Good post. I realized after my last post this thread wasn't really meant to discuss the issue but rather just be a mechanism to vent some frustration - or at least some on here seem to think.
Nationalism and religion are just other ways to divide us and a small few to get power and control us

To add to Pacman's post 28: what exactly were the fanatical Muslims (the PC term would be Moors or Moops for you Seinfeld fans) doing in Spain and France starting in the 700's?? Were the engaging in tickle fights back then??
BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!!Be careful out there!
