If Biggs hadn't done a runner he'd have been free'd long ago.

But as he stuck two fingers up to Britain throughout his time living it up in Rio then let him die in jail

The money spent on chasing him and keeping him now doesn't compare to the cost of keeping him fed and watered during the prison time he should've served.

I'm biased, I have a major soft spot for outlaws who fuck with the system and get away with it.
I love that he was living it up pretty openly in Rio for all those years, while thumbing his nose at the British authorities.
He's old and feeble now. For fuck's sake let the old dude out.
The real criminals are the rat-bastards in charge of large financial institutions, and they continue to walk among us.

Its Ok to Romantasize these Scumbags , unless you happen to be on the receiving end of it , which i have, at least four of five times.

The Chinese have the right idea, i think the death penalty is used for at least two dozen crimes with the bullet to the back of the head

 It's never nice to be a victim of crime Tomcat, my previous house was broken into and I've had a couple of cars nicked over the years.
For the more violent offences & those involving children, I would agree with your proposed (chinese) style of punishment however, once it is beyond reasonable doubt that a lag is of no further danger to the community, then may as well set him free IMO, making room for another recent offender.

Those 'great train robbers' of the 60's won a place in the hearts of many law abiding UK citizens.
Many of us grew up to news on Ronnie Biggs's subsequent escapades illegally at large down in Rio where he lived the high life on a diet of hookers & booze financed by donations from British tabloid publications and tourists buying his merchandise & posing for photos.
Remember also the time he was kidnaped by that Scotish bounty hunter and taken to Barbados where a legal loophole enabled him to be returned to freedom and his young son in Brazil....That put a smile on many peoples faces I reckon

pulled off the largest heist of its time.
escaped from birmingham prison,
has dodgy plastic surgery in europe,
dodged his way round australia,
ending up living in brazil,
survived a kidnap attempt for reward money.

i just hope he gets a funeral to match jade goody.

And the UK and Brazil were about to sign an extradition treaty.

The 'Great Train Robbers' were given an exemplary sentence as it was the first modern crime of it's type in the UK and the authorities set out to make sure it was the last.

Ronnie will stay inside as long as the authorities decide he may survive. If they get the chance to let him out literally at the last minute they will.
