(alan1chef @ May 07 2009,14:59) The US went into Iraq to expand their empire???? LOL....do you REALLY believe that? If so, then I have some beachfront property in Arizona you'll love! Also, anyone who says we went into Iraq because of the oil has succumbed to the worn out cliche used by liberals for the last 40 years. When you cannot find the real reason...or don't want to believe the real reason...or just want to be loved by your fellow liberals...you say OIL...over and over and over again.
Please read "confessions of an economic hit man" by john perkins.
Her explained it better than I could ever.

At the end of the day, there was no valid reason for the us to invade Irak.
    Except robbing the country.

when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.

Alan, before you die, you will come to realise how the great US propaganda machine has hoodwinked you, along with so many of your fellow countrymen, into believing that the US foreign policy has been to bring down "evil empires" & " to deliver democracy to the long supressed".

NOTHING IS FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH!!!!

Save yourself years of ignorance & pick up a copy of "Confessions of an Economic Hitman" & learn for yourself just what has been going on under that Star Spangled Banner you are all so proud of.

Then, & only then, will you be qualified to comment on the role of the US in international affairs & just why the rest of the world is so resentful of the 8 disastrous years of neo-con ideolology that was forced onto the rest of us.

          study the facts.
the kind of "aid" now provided to Irak is equivalent to robbing.

          The Iraqi government controls nothing.
If the Iraqi government loses support of the US, it is gone in less than 2 weeks.

          How was the country robbed?

Perkins book is 75% fiction and 25% fact....maybe, and there have been hundreds written over the last 35 years...all by opportunists like Perkins who want to write a book, make a movie, make money and retire. Only the truly naive buy into that nonsense. The "chicken little's" of the world are laughing all the way to the bank....and that includes Mr. Perkins.

As for my qualifications to comment....give me a break...

Cheney wanted the Oil, and the profiteering $$$
Rumsefeld wanted to test his new army (shock and awe, etc..)
Bush wanted to 'avenge' his father who Sadam supposedly tried to assassinate after he left office.

In others words, there were no good reasons, but the top decision makers all had the same goal for their own personal reasons....so we started a war.

There was no grand conspiracy, just a bunch of dickheads each wanting a war.

Sure, you are qualified to comment because your hero Rushy Poo, the Pillsbury Dough Boy told you it is 75% fiction didn't? So you took his cock out of your mouth long enough to tell him how wonderful he is and if he could please shove his weiny in your ass next.
You talk about naive and have a pic of that fat sickening worthless disgusting piece of shit as your avatar.

You're probably naive enough to still believe Oswald acted alone aren't you?

(Lefty @ May 07 2009,05:33) People who actually listen to and think Limbaugh, O'Reilly and Hannity have a worthwhile thought ever exit their mouth just make me shake my head in disgust.
I loved it when we were talking about that famous media wing of the ultra- conservative movement, you know, Fox news......... and Road Runner [who is a Brit!] said; "Any sensible person can see FOX news for the joke that it is".

Right, problem is that all the people who watch there are NON-sensible!!

                        I was in my car one day when I heard this from Sean Hannity [who, lets face it, is just plain STUPID whether you agree with his politics or not];

"The Surge is one of the greatest military manuevers of all time"

Huh? I wonder if ol' George Washington was rolling in his grave when he heard that one? Patton? Genghis Khan? Vo Nguyen Giap? U.S. Grant? Eisenhowser? Churchill? The list could go on and on and nowhere on it would tbe The Surge LOL. and try telling any of the young boys who have come back from Iraq in the past 12 months missing legs or arms or in a body bag that The Surge was successful, or the people in Baghdad who still have to deal with car bombings and insurgency every day.

It's the same as that jug-eared fool from Texas declaring "Mission Accomplished" on the deck of that aircraft carrier in that gay-looking [for HIM] jumpsuit 6 YEARS ago! Errr..... again, anyone who watches and believes Fox news is just not a sensible person and frankly should not be allowed to vote.

Thank you for that acknowledgement by a Bush-fanboy that 25% of the book are fact.

25% are more than enough to prove my point :-)

The west is pretty reliant on some Saudi oil and for the last 20 years the biggest threat as far as the military were concerned is that the King was going to topple over. The monarchy is very shaky and for many years the press thought that the end was in sight and that major unrest would bring Iraq in as saviours.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia nearly did topple. Can you imagine that scenario...WW3 maybe...

Anyway, there was a UN resolution wasnt there, or can we conveniently forget this. What is the point of the UN?
                            There is no point

There was NO UN resolution that allowed the USA to invade Iraq in 2003. The previous Sec gen of the UN said that the "USA invasion of Iraq was illegal" under international law.
