Where did my observation come from? Did you see the "fascist" British police do anything to stop egg throwers, or protect in any way the person they were being thrown at??  Didn't see it on the BBC (& other) news clips I watched.  Something may have happened off camera. Probably did as it all happened pretty fast.  Just because the British police aren't as "fascist" as some, just lately they seem (from biased? media reports) to have made some pretty poor decisions.  Just doing the bidding of the government, or acting independently, following the law in the interests of EVERYONE, not just special interest groups when it suits?  Separation of powers. Corner stone of democracy of the Westminster type. As far as I've read you cannot "protest" with in 1Km of the British Parliament.  Sure there are plenty of great Coppers. A few bad apples go a long way.

There have been regular 'protests' over the years on that little grass square just outside the Houses of Parliament, which is less than 100 yards away. The last one I saw was the Ghurkhas and the Tamils just a couple of weeks away.

But there is a current debate on the best way to allow/disallow such protests:

Pros and cons on both sides as usual. I don't see a lot of fascism at play here.

But even if it went that way, what is wrong with that? Most protestors want the publicity, and far easier to get more TV cameras in range slightly further away.

And that is one of the busiest bridge/road junctions in London. I have driven over it a hundred times. So, the less protestors there are in that square, the less impact there is on me going about my daily routine.

The cops in the UK are crippled by red tape and insane 'targets.' They also lack the desire to prosecute as most cases are simply not worth pursuing either because of cost or inevitable non-punishments from a criminal friendly judiciary.

I don't blame the police and I certainly don't dislike them, but even a fan of the police would concede that they are not the independent force they used to be.

Re the Police in the UK.

Can only really comment on the Met but it does seem to me as though the upper ranks do tend to be labour party stooges. No problems with the rank and file, but sick of the political bullshit coming down from the top. Like the Black Police officers association. Now they all wear the same uniform so why do they need their own association? The Met has now distance itelf from this group of sharlatans who use their race to promote their own positions. I've no problem with non white police officers but I do have a problem with racial quotas meaning the best person for the job does not get it becasue he/she doesn't tick the right boxes.

Don't they have "compulsory" stoppage of pedestrians, looking for "terrorists" and other "subversives" already? I certainly read of them "harassing" photographers. www.theregister.co.uk regularly comments on UK police issues. Am I being misinformed?
