  • Complaining about BNP, what about the current bunch of fascists!

Pirate Party wins seat in European Parliament

    Drops anchor in Brussels

The pro-internet file sharing Pirate Party yesterday scored a big win by securing a seat in the European parliament.

It pulled in 7.1 per cent of votes in Sweden, which handed the party one of the country€™s 18 seats in the European parliament.

"Privacy issues and civil liberties are important to people and they demonstrated that clearly when they voted today," Pirate Party candidate Anna Troberg told Swedish TV on Sunday.

Thousands of Swedes declared their support for the party following the landmark Pirate Bay trial in April, which saw founders of the notorious BitTorrent tracker site convicted of being accessories to breaching copyright laws and handed one-year jail terms.

The party was formed in Sweden in 2006 following the introduction of a controversial law that forbade the downloading of copyrighted material from the internet.

The Pirate Party is not the only marginal party that has now claimed a seat in Strasbourg. In the UK, the Far Right BNP has claimed two seats, while the UK Independence Party came in second overall behind the Conservatives. Labour was pushed into third place.

The BNP, which styles itself as the representative of the "Celts, Anglo-Saxons, Danes, Norse and closely related kindred peoples" it says constitute the indigenous peoples of the UK, took 6.5 per cent of the UK vote. The Pirate Party beat this, with its 7.1 per cent share. We think this tells us something significant, but we're not sure what.®

    • (Torurot @ Jun. 09 2009,13:43) We think this tells us something significant, but we're not sure what...
It tells me that the old system of government and the old fuckers who are a part of it have all but abandoned young people and will stubbornly continue to ignore the errors of their ways.

The EU are hurriedly thinking of ways to actually exclude political parties from Europe altogether in favour of a general multinational mandate which abandons everyone.

We'll be out of that crappy Nazi party in 10 years.

Labour and Conservative simply can't change. They are full of liars, thieves and age old establishment.

The world has changed and the voters are angry with what hasn't changed. They are finally fed up being ignored while immigrant criminals take over cities and towns across the land.

All these stalwart fools can do is tell the world that it's sad that a million people voted BNP or UKIP and blame it all on a 'protest vote' which they claim is part of the cycle of politics!

A million people voted for the BNP because they believe in the BNP. The media and establishment are scared to death of Nick Griffin and the BNP and the rest of the country are a bunch of morons who can't tell the difference between an apple and a biscuit. If it had been a protest vote they either would not have voted at all or voted for someone else.

Thank fuck I'm out of that 'ancient Rome' syndrome and it's crappy Nazi dictatorship of nations.

That ass-clown, Griffin looks like he could be related to Peter Griffin.

          • Yes, I saw that. At least Griffin acted with class, unlike that Nazi cunt John (Jackboots) Prescott who's poxy brain thought the best way to deal with it was to have a punch up!

            • "Off our street, Nazi scum", the chant that is now part of Griffins life anytime he appears in public. He is a high profile target, today eggs, tomorrow bullets.

These protestors may be doing the BNP a favour with undecided supporters. The less fair they see hm him treated, the more some of them may decide to vote BNP.

It sounds perverse, but each of us gets to make our own contribution to democracy. And some will want to spite these protestors.

Griffin is now a one-man media circus everywhere he goes. If he was smart, he would modify the parties hard-line & take advantage of the free publicity he is now assured of.

Not just that, but if he doesn't seize the chance to air an acceptable commentary on what he stands for, he is a poor politician & will have lost a valuable opportunity.

An opportunity supplied by the very people who wish him dead. I love irony.

He is smart. He has a history/law degree from Cambridge. And he has radically made over the NF into the BNP and modified the manifesto into a sensible and thoughtful sell.

Like you say - the behavior of everyone else is making him look great right now.

Uncertain voters will give him the ear he needs to prove that the media and politicians have been mouthing off bullshit to protect their own massive and misappropriated empires.

But what really appeals to people is that he is literally a life long supporter of what he believes.

Unlike Labour and the Conservatives he hasn't entered politics to get rich, lie about his ambitions, spin his way out of the lies, steal money and get a peerage.

For the first time since Margaret Thatcher there is a person in politics with a real vision.

That makes four in UK politics in the last 100 years!

                • Nick Griffin has a long way to go & much to prove before he could be counted amongst such a rarefied bunch. (How apt that you snuck in a picture of Enoch Powell, how many of his detractors have long forgiven him?)

Winston & Margaret were both prepared to put the interests of the country first, Griffin's problem is that not enough of the electorate are sufficiently angry with the current immigration abuses to demand the answer he is offering.

Plus he will be forever dogged by Neo-Nazi skinheads who have come to symbolise the ugly side of his message. The UK will have to sink much further into the mire before the BNP's mantra gets real traction.

That & the fact that it is time to dump the blatantly racist part of their message because the media must be courted if they expect to appeal to the mainstream.

The media will ultimately determine if the BNP live or die electorally, they & the major parties love having a new public enemy to kick around, but if Griffin can present himself as a voice of reason, if the BNP shifts towards the centre, they may surprise at the next election.

God knows the British (the informed at least) are looking for someone to fix the mess the country finds itself in.

                  • Notice how the fascist British police stood by and did NOTHING.  On the other hand the Rozzers are shooting DEAD people of colour all over Britain, and in the underground, harassing street photographers, and rounding up and penning "protesters" who disagree with the current Labour Fascists. You cannot "protest" within 1Km of Parliament.   POLICE FASCISTS are supposed to be INDEPENDENT enforcing LAW's impartially FOR EVERYONE.  Any one remember the reasons for the MAGNA CARTA!!!!

                    • Police Fascists??

Have I missed something? I wasn't aware that the biggest of the problems faced by the UK was their police force. The very same police who have the job to protect Nick Griffin from the more radical elements amongst the protestors.

And aren't the guys in the clip who are seen shepherding him into the car plainclothes police? There are no uniformed police in sight, they tend to be too divisive.

And on the subject of these protestors, they will not be satisfied till they injure or kill Griffin. Watching them a 2nd time it is clear they are looking for a fight.

What gets me is the organised nature of the protest. The BNP wouldn't advertise such a news conference to anyone other than the media.

What are the odds that the protestors were both organised & told where to go by the tabloids looking for something sensational to develop? I would bet my nuts on it.

Because all the major countries and economies of the world are far, far more inter-connected than ever before, that's why. People who depend on each other for trade and economic benefits are far less likely to go to war.

This was one of the main reasons that the EU (or its original version) was created after WW2.

If China smacks the US on the nose, what is going to happen to Chinese exports? They will fall so hard they will be dizzy, super-mass unemployment and civil unrest in China.....ain't going to happen. And the Americans need the Chinese to keep buying their debt and bonds...so it ain't going to happen that way either.

The danger is the economically and culturally NON-integrated governments, particularly ones that don't have a free electorate to worry about.

And another danger is exactly the sort of nationalistic, xenophobic policies of people like the BNP. Excessive nationalism is very scary.

I wouldn't agree with that simply because he has another viewpoint. But you do let others get under your skin. I can't help but notice that you are abusive to anyone you don't agree with.

At least he has an opinion, these threads give everyone a chance to have their say & he has had plenty to say. It is blind obedience to ideology that I find annoying. And low levels of tolerance.
