Every Election in the UK since World War 2 has been won or lost because of the economy - the only exception being the 1983 Election which Maggie won by a landslide following the Falklands War.

Many of Stogies and others comments about the effects of immigration on mainly England are true but the voting population today are primarily concerned about the economy and the likely humilation of the country when its Government is forced to apply to the IMF for a bail out.

I wouldnt be surprised to see Gordon Brown replaced as Prime Minister by his own party before the end of the year. Every day brings a new scandal or example of Government incompetance. Labour MPs are panicking that they will be voted out at next years Election. On July 1st when MPs expenses are published under the Freedom of Information Act expect several Government Ministers to be forced to resign for corruption.

Gordon Browns reaction to events clearly shows that he and his Government live in a world of delusion being completely out of touch with middle England. Whatever the Celts think it is middle England who determines the winner in UK Elections and there is nothing Labour can do to prevent the Conservatives winning the next Election.

The new Government will change immigration policy - how far they change it will determine the level of success of the BNP.

rot my man the whole worlds dna is almost the same, your DNA compared to a thais would be about 2% different

it's now thought that most brits now are descendants of the existing inhabitants at the time of the Anglo-saxon and jutes "invasion". Nobody really know how many people of these germanic tribes arrived but it is unlikely to have been more than 50,000 (almost a million people inhabited the island at the time). The great mystery is how their language came to dominate (the culture is a melting pot of what already existed and what they brought with other influences like vikings and normans etc)

I think Giz's DNA is actually a lot less than 2% different to a Thai person's (the same goes for Giz and a chimp). However, a difference in just a few genes out of thousands is considered significant

Most of th Irish population do have an identifiable genetic marker that is really only also found in an appreciable volume in northern Iberia (parts of portugal, basque country etc). FYI Irish founding myths have it that that the gaels (what the irish call themselves in the Irish language) came from the Iberian peninsula (Milesius of Spain and all that)

A lot of the theorising about the origins of people in these islands (especially england) is still quite speculative. Current thinking (a relatively small amount of germanic peoples from Germany/Denmark) is quite different from that which prevailed only 30 years ago (mass invasion of germanic peoples pushing the aborigonal Britons to the fringes - Wales, Scotland and Cornwall). WHo knows what we'll know in 30 years. Does it matter?


Donny almost certainly right that "Celtic" was more of a common culture and set of languages rather than a single, homogeneous ethnic grouping - i.e. there were co-existing celtic cultures in Ireland and Austria but they were probably not ethnically related
