Nearly but not quite!   You vote for a candidate in your local constituency who may or may not be a member of a party.
A party with a majority of seats (or a coalition) is then invited by the sovereign to put forward a leader.

The ballot paper will say Mr/Miss xxx - Labour/Conservative/Liberal/SNP/Independent/Monster Raving Looney (for the non-brits, I did not make that last one up )

The blurring comes when one party candidate is, or thinks he is, being voted for personally like a president is voted for. Different systems getting mixed up
