I thought of another thing that is a pet peeve. All those Ayrab places with their damned hooka pipes that are taking over much of the Sunee Plaza neighborhood.
Don't recall seeing any in 2007, then go back there a year later and they are all over the place. Not just Ayrabs, but quite a few Thais sitting around sucking on those things.

This really irks me every time I see it. The parading of elephants through the busy streets of BKK so the owners can panhandle money. These are a national symbol of Thailand and were born to be in the wild. They have survived through wars which they were used to win, they survived mass logging and deforestation of Thailand, now they are kept in cramped living areas and paraded on the hot pavement where they sense so many things through their feet. Every once in a while there is a mishap and they blame the elephant for going crazy? WTF

All the pollution, car lights, camera flashes, various noises......I was careful myself to not contribute by taking my photos further away and not directly into the elephants eyes. They even come through my quite neighborhood on the way to Rachada Prisak.

I totally agree with you on that one too. Elephants feet were not made to walk on hard surfaces like asphalt and concrete and to do so really amounts to abuse, from what I have read on sites devoted to organizations that care for abused elephants. Even in all the western zoos though, it seems like the elephants spend most of their time on similar surfaces too.

PATRIOTIC Brits blasted a council yesterday for barring a St George€™s Day parade €“ after letting Muslim fanatics abuse our soldiers.

Anyone wanting to stage an event in Luton, Beds, has to seek permission from the council€™s Safety Advisory Group.

But while fanatical Muslims were given the green light to gather and scream insults when the Royal Anglian Regiment returned from Iraq last month, an application for a St George€™s Day celebration this month was turned down.

Approval has also been granted for events to mark the birthday of the Prophet Mohammed and the death of his grandson.

Many Luton residents complaining of €œdouble standards€ were further angered when a rally to protest at the council€™s decisions two days ago was stopped and then broken up by police.
