Week # 1
Game # 1
Cincinnati Bengals (7-9) at Baltimore Ravens (5-11)
Pickem
An early season match-up of two of 2007€™s most disappointing AFC North teams. The Bengals so far have a full compliment of players with no one, at the time of this writing, currently spending time behind bars anywhere and they have a healthy Rudy Johnson, a great quarterback in Carson Palmer, A great receiver in TJ Housmawhatthehellishisname and so far still have Ocho Sinco, Chad Johnson although that could change any day. Their defense has never been their strong suit but they are facing a team who hasn€™t had much of an offense for years. Now that Steve McAir has hung up his cleats it leaves the door open for Kyle Boller and Troy (overrated) Smith to lead the Raven€™s offense with? Well who knows what they will come up with as far as weapons are concerned. They do still have a stalwart if not aging defense led by the always intimidating Ray Lewis. But I can€™t see that s being enough this year.
My pick is the Bungles in a rout.
Game # 2
Detroit Lions (7-9) at Atlanta Falcons ( 4-12)
Lions by 1
Sorry about such a Michael Vick (Dog) of a game. (Can€™t promise this won€™t be the last gratuitous Michael Vick slam this season) but you know I go by the closest games in accordance with the point spreads and sometimes that will mean you will get two teams that will be likely battling for that number one draft choice which could be Tim Tebow this year. At any rate it is hard to tell which Motor city pussycat team will show. The ones that went 6-2 to start the season or the team that finished 1-7. I€™ve been a disheartened Lions fan for far too long to see much of a chance for anything this year. Calvin Johnson and Roy Williams will make things exciting but for how long? And how many more sacks can Kitna take? Taking on the Atlanta dirty birds in the opener should boost their confidence, that is until those dirty birds peck them to another loss. What remains to be seen is how long it will take for Matt Ryan to replace Chris Redman. One way for the Falcons to guarantee themselves a W is to play Lion castoff Joey Harrington€¦€¦€¦..
My pick is the dirty Birds in a tight one.
Game # 3
Seattle Seahawks (10-6) at Buffalo Bills (7-9)
Buffalo by 1
The Seahawks and Shaun Alexander what life is like without a dominating ex-Wolverine anchoring their line. Now the former league MVP Shaun is unemployed and the Seahawks get spanked whenever they step away from the friendly confines of their weakass division. They still have a formidable offense with Matt Hasselback and have picked up Deon Branch and Cowboy castoff Julius Jones but their defense needs some work still. The Bills may have found their QB in Trent Edwards and Marshawn Lynch is a weapon at running back. Their defense is decent and at home may be decent enough to hold the Seahawks in tow. This could be a good early season intra-conference match-up.
My pick is the shoot-em up Buffalo boys
Game # 4
Arizona Cardinals (8-8) at San Francisco 49ers (5-11)
Cardinals by 2 ½
The Cards have been on the doorstep of respectability for the past 2 or 3 years and if Matt Leinart can reach his Heisman trophy winning status once again they may reach that. HE has all the weapons he should need with two very tough young receivers in Antwan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald and a decent running back in Marcell Shipp. Their defense has always been poor and this year may not be any better but then again they are playing the Niners who can€™t seem to find their offense. The Niners are sticking with Alex Smith at QB but Frank Gore is aging fast at running back. Speaking of aging they have Rams castoff Issac Bruce listed as their # 1 receiver? Could be a long year in San Fran. I think the Cards are definitely on their way UP
My pick is the Cards
Game # 5
Dallas Cowboys (13-3) at Cleveland Browns (10-6)
Cowboys by 3
For the first Sunday night game of the year we have a great intra-conference match-up of two playoff teams last year. The Boys still will have a loaded lineup with Tony Romo and Terrell Owens and Marion Barber who no longer will share time with Julius Jones who has departed to the Seahawks. The Boys have been a force to be reckoned with the past two season during the regular season only to fall flat in the playoffs. The Browns from the mistake by the lake were last season€™s surprise with Derek Anderson providing some real offensive punch by using his talented young receiving corps of Braylon (MEEECHIGAN) Edwards and Kellen Winslow who as long as he stays away from motorcycles is a valid force. I think the Dawg Pound will prove to be intimidating enough to the Cowboys to put the Brownies over the top
My pick is the Mistake by the Lake boys
Monday Night Bonerus!!!! Game
You need to pick the final score closest wins 5 BONERUS points
Minnesota Vikings (8-8) at Green Bay Packers (13-3)
Packers by 3
For the first time in 150 years€¦..well at least 15 the Vikings will step into Lambeau and not see number 4 across the line ready to pick their secondary apart€¦..well at least at the time of this writing they won€™t, the Packers could have second thoughts brought on by an uprising from their rabid fans and may end up trading their entire first team defense and the entire Milwaukee Brewer and Milwaukee Buck teams to the Jets for Mr. Favre to return. Seriously if Aaron Rogers stays healthy thru the pre-season he will be trying very hard to change Lambeau from Favre€™s frozen tundra to Mr. Roger€™s neighborhood. He will still have some great weapons with Ryan Grant, Greg Jennings, and Donald Driver and their defense will be led by that Heisman MEECHIGAN MAN Charles Woodsen and Al Harris and a stinking luckeye loser AJ Hawk. The Vikings will have Adrian Peterson running behind the great Steve (MEEECHIGAN) Hutchinson but have no proven QB yet. Tavaris Jackson is still learning on the job and will be tested early. The Rogers era will begin with a W
My pick is the Pack 24-13
To Summarize my picks are:
Cincinatti
Atlanta
Buffalo
Arizona
Cleveland
Green Bay 24-13
