  • Prostitution banned in Norway!

from today there is a new law in effect in norway. all form for payment regarding sex is illigal.
in theory, every form of a financial transaction that will directly lead to sex is forbidden. including gifts over a certain ammount.
it's only illigal to be on the paying end though and the law applies also for norwegian citizens abroad, living abroad or traveling abroad.
and also all sexual activites, including watching someone masturbate.
to sell sex though is legal.
first time offence if there is no pimping or other serious criminal activity involved, there will be a fine for 9000nok(1000‚¬/60.000thb).

the good thing is that the streetwalkers from nigeria and eastern europe will travel elsewhere. they were really a pest in the city center of oslo. moving from the traditional red light district into the main streets in the center.
hopefully a few eastern european gangs will leave too.

if the main thing was to fight organized crime i'm all for it, and most probably are. but if the police will use manpower to be on a moralcrusade for the feminists its insane. especially when all types of crime in oslo are rising, and the city is the heroin-capital of europe.
police said that also will target independent escorts operate from their home or hotelroom by call them and
make a deal and establish that the particular girl is selling sex. later on they
inted to make uninvited visits to these apartments and any male in this room will be considered a john.
most will certainly agree on a fine and not bother to
fight for their cause in the court, obviously. so, instead of
chasing bad guys the police can make themself look good by collecing fines like any traffic warden.

my guess though is that in the first few months there will be some actions just to show the public and politicians that they indeed will enforce this law. before summer old bill will turn the blind eye.

the funnier side of this new law is that doesn't solely exclude non-prostitutes, as there is no real definition of a
prostitute. this mean if you buy an expensive gift for your date, fiance, wife or friend, and later on having sex with this person. this will be illigal too since it was the gift of such a financial propotion that led to sex.

hopefully there will be som ballsy guys out there daring their case in the court. could be a spectacle. but from other countries with the same regulations, it shows that men in the west, cowards as we are, accept any fine, instead of giving the femi-nazis the piss.

i will start my criminal career in los in a few weeks ....

Some left wing clowns are trying to introduce this into the UK as well.

Why dont they try banning smoking instead....Now that would save lives.
But of course they wouldnt get voted in again

Tomcat is right (pardon the pun!) - the leftie loonies have trotted out another dead horse and are doing their best to flog it.

I can't remember exactly when the last time was they tried but I would guess it was about 25 years ago.
Co-incidentally a Labour government was in power then and the leftie loonies trotted dragged it out then.

Last time the House of Lords (bless the old dears they do have some use) pointed out how it would be un-enforceable, victimise the prostitutes and waste police time.

They recommended clamping down harder on pimps and brothel owners.

The UK police have all the laws they need to control it - they don't have enough policemen though - and the leftie loonies don't like to send the pimps and brothel owners to jail because it's bad for them or something.....

Don't you just love it when governments try to protect us from ourselves?

This doesn't sound good. Why not make a law to solve the core of the problem rather than globally ban it wholesale? It is akin to abolishing alcohol 100% versus creating drunk driving laws. Punish the abusers, not the innocents. There is a saying in English "don't throw the baby out with the bathwater".

my guess though is that in the first few months there will be some actions just to show the public and politicians that they indeed will enforce this law. before summer old bill will turn the blind eye.
This very situation causes much wreckage of Thailand nightlife. Very tough laws passed in earlier eras are ignored only one day to be suddenly dug up by one politician with an agenda and enforced ruthlessly because--that's the law!

manarak, I think the comment should be what a sad bunch of political hacks for doing this.

Norway is a fine country, as most are, except when the politicians start mucking about!

usually politicians also have people who vote for them.

there is such a thing as being too civilized. it begins with sharing the household chores and ends with a bunch of feminazis and whipped politicians running the country.

              I say no!

for the last 3 yrs norway have had a coallison between the labor party and two other smaller parties, the 'socalist leftwing party'(!!!) and the 'center party'(anti eu, more funds to local agricultur and so on). together they have the majority of representatives, so they can more or less do as they want.

they got their law now, men('s sexuality) are shit and some parts of the city is safe and clean again.

yes...until some sick bastard rapes some childs...because he cant make an apointment with an prostitute.....

i think that prostitutes DOES seems to work like an "safety switch" which help to reduce a lot of sexcrimes.... so to make it illegal is INSANE....

Norway - brilliant. So if someone does not seek renumeration for sex it is not illegal. Wow sex will be free!

What always stuns me is that any draconian policy has a HUGE downside. Take Prohibition in the USA in the 1920's - it created the Mafia - Capone etc. If you drive an industry underground the underworld takes over.

The UK banned all guns following the massacre by one individual at a school. Has that stopped/reduced gun related crime? Nope - the guys who want guns do not care what the law says so the only people penalised by such a reform were people who used guns in a sensible fashion - sportsman etc. So now gun trading has gone 'underground'.

In Australia some states have legalised prostitution but it is controlled. Allegedly this has taken the trade off the street and concentrated it into known areas.

Batman makes a good point - some people in society have an 'urge' and prostitution allows them to satisfy that urge. If you outlaw that then perhaps they will seek satisfaction elsewhere.

The one thing that I do appreciate about Asia versus the West is that there are laws but they are not enforced 100%.

Pattaya was great fun 'on the streets' on New Year Eve. In the UK I would stay at home as I would be more concerned about violence there than Pattaya.

Maybe if Western governments 'lightened' up on some areas and focused on the real issues they would catch more real criminals than the pedestrian satisfying an urge.

Actually you could say it was more the result of two incidents within about 5 years of each other.

The really stupid part is that the two individuals applied for and were granted firearms licences.  In both cases the respective police forces broke the then firearms laws in granting them.

In the case of one the secretary of his gun club (you had to belong to one to have anything except a shotgun) when contacted by the police as required said don't give this guy a licence.
It was a legal requirement for the police to get an OK from a gun club official!

In the other case he had a previous offence for violence which meant that the issue of the licence was illegal.  The police were required to check for such convictions not accept the word of the applicant.

I don't recall either force being taken to task over this at the time.

So now thousands of law abiding citizens cannot pursue their hobby and gun crime is now a bigger problem than it was before the ban.
