Look back through the last 300(ish) years and you will discover that precisely NO country/army/group has ever successfully invaded or conquered Afghanistan.  Never...., and the US will NOT be the first to achieve it.

Here's a question JUST for our US readers. If the US was invaded by Mast Bators "aliens" which where killing your countryman, bombing your weddings etc etc you would say" O.K. carry on? Put your self in the place of an Afghani.

The war in Afghanistan against the Taliban/Al Qaeda is largely justified because of the attacks of 9/11, or it is at least much more justified than our unnecessary war in Iraq. This is what I'm talking about.

I'm not saying I condone either war, in fact I completely oppose the Iraq war. All I'm saying is that when the two are compared, the Afghanistan war is largely more justified.

If you can't understand this, then perhaps you need to re-read Stogie's initial post.

AGAIN, no one is condoning EITHER war. Get over yourself and your self-righteous opinion.

The answer is that when the Taliban took control of the Capital after the Russians left they let in all the Islamist dregs of the world  including Bin Laden, his cohorts and the dregs of world terror like Chechens and all the other bearded rabble

Yes, that's correct, to a point.  Let's not forget that it was the U.S. who armed trained and funded that same "bearded rabble" when they were the Mujahadeen and they were fighting the Russians on behalf of the U.S. Old Ronnie Raygun called them "freedom fighters" and even had them over to the White House for a visit.
It's interesting how "freedom fighters" suddenly become "terrorists" depending on who they're targeting and whose doing the labeling.

So how do you explain why when the "taliban" were in "power" (That is the Warlords accepted certain payments to turn a blind eye") there was a huge drop in the amount grown? After the US invaded poppy growth went nuts. You have to give the farmers something to grow that will make them money, otherwise they will just hate you!. American corporate farmers are subsidized to the tune of BILLIONS a year to not grow certain crops, and unsustainable quantities of others. Should we bomb them for growing crops that are already in surplus? Then we in the west "talk" about "free" trade. No one is forcing the Wests addicts to take their drugs. The war on drugs have point blank failed! Time for a new model. If drugs weren't illegal they would be cheap as chips.

Every superpower makes mistakes, Russia (ex-Soviet Union) and China have caused big problems as well. Dwelling on the past won't solve problems. Hopefully President Obama can take the US down a different path that will begin the process of improving things instead of making things worse.

Bombing the daylights out of "enemies" may sound like an attractive and simple solution - but it never really works.
