Most DVDs I bought are more then 4 years old... HD picture is nice but not worth the money imho. Anyway, most movies I own were produced between 1970 and 1990. As you said: "Problem only lies with the original source material and not the format." So will there be any good HD release of the movies I own so far?!

I have the sting in HD and think given the age of the film, the transfer is brilliant.
Casablanca transfer is meant to be very good also.
2001 a space odessy has impressed many people
The fifth element was remastered for blu-ray after the first release which was used for dvd and vhs was universally canned. The remastered edition is great.
The rambo movies look damn good in Hidef also...as is Blade runner

Some disappointments for me include total recall and T2.

I've read some of the fox releases lack a bit from the earlier films....

Overall i'm satisfied... some of the new release stuff is simply perfect and the non compressed audio tracks rock.

Like everything, the studio try to maximise profits with minimal efforts... but sometimes they listen and re-release stuff after we complain a bit.

Not really too off topic, but has been done to death here before!

The truth is that there are no DVDs or legal downloads of things I want to see and unless I download it then I can't see it! Especially old films which I love to watch.

Secondly; the films are priced higher than what they are worth to me personally. I simply don't want to see 'XXY' badly enough to order it online even for a dollar! I couldn't be arsed to wait for it to finish downloading for free, either!

No music in the world is worth paying money for. I'm amazed that this scam has been allowed to go on for as long as it has! Still - there are those that seem to want to just as there are those who insist on buying water in a bottle. Up to them.

Feel like you are cheating the artist? Ha - that's the biggest joke of all! You are only fooling yourself, but hey... go ahead and spend your money on how you see fit!

I wish they would concentrate more on the quality of the movies that are made rather than the size of the disc you can play it on.

Frankly, I'm much happier watching a good movie on my mobile than a shite one on my home theater.

I sure can! But that would take too long. But here's a pic of some of the old movies that I have downloaded over the years... There are some here that are still unavailable for purchase although some on this list now are available to order on line, but even then it's impossible to get a delivery to Thailand using my UK based credit card!

Most of the movies are available on DVD. Somebody who got "Miller's Crossing", hell yeah, I'm not the only one...

Some of those movies might be old enough that there isn't any copyright on them anymore...

Yes... most are available NOW! I have had this collection for donkeys years long before they were released on DVD. In fact a lot of these torrents are snagged from the TCM channel.

Sorry SB, you are wrong on which is the corporate scam...

DVDs have been obsolete for years but they keep shoving them down everyones throats cause they can make big bucks at near zero productions cost.

Blu ray are just allowing us to watch a picture how it was meant to be watched....

I rather watch a good movie on a good screen with a good picture than any other option....

I've been trying to download this off the Pirateby link like I guess some of you have and it looks like there are no seeders out there
  -   I'm stuck at 1.7%    
Did a search for other links and can only find dead ones and some Spanish language copies which I did not try.

Also searched  Amazon.co.uk  and they say the film is going to be released on DVD (not HD or Blu-Ray) on 15th Sept.

Maybe there will be a few more torrents round after that.
