You need to get out more mate...or over here more...

My advice, pick up a copy of anything by Mr. Seattle (well nearby) Tom Robbins...

You'll laugh and learn and laugh and think...and laugh...

Start with his first novel...Another Roadside Attraction...and work your way through all 8 of his novels...

You yob , I must lend you my ICF book by Cass Pennant
'Cass' the movie out now....get it at your local stall (or maybe not as UK films seem to be slower). Not seen it, seems to have mixed reviews pointing towards it being more intelligent than Green Street but no more than 3/5. The best by far will always be The Firm, not that I seek out hooligan films!

On the book front, just read Shantaram....bit pretentious but still a good story to read. Incredible as a true tale and movie in the offing no doubt.

(stogie bear @ Jul. 29 2008,21:06) Just getting through Jeremy Clarkson's books.

Shame we don't have people like him running the country.
I didn't know Jeremy Clarkson wrote books. I've only seen him on Top Gear.

I assume those you mentioned have nothing to do with cars?

'bout time this thread got a bump.

                What We Say Goes
Conversations on US power in a changing world.
                Noam Chomsky, with David Barsamian

                327.73 CHO 2007 ISBN 978 1 74175 348 6

An easy and enjoyable read. Many Americans would raise their eyebrows, with "gee I didn't know that". Impeccably referenced for those that may doubt the written word.

                  Unintelligent Design

by Robyn Williams (not that Robin Williams)

Inspired by rise of Intelligent Design(ID) in the States and Australia this is a fairly light hearted attack on Creationism and it's bastardised offspring ID.
Williams doesn't want to bring any more attention to ID but thinks it needs to be attacked considering the backing it has gained from rightwing conservatives. He also uses the book to highlight the amount of science behind evolution and to inspire the reader to explore further.
The book also looked at the court case in Dover, Pennsylvania 2005 where a school board tried to force ID into it's science classes. I had heard of the case but not indepth and I was glad to read that the US constitution withstood the challenge and rejected ID.

Something a bit unrelated it also contained a quote from Leo Da Vinci that I liked. His lament for the penis
It has dealings with human intelligence and sometimes displays an intelligence of its own; where a man may desire it to be stimulated it remains obstinate and follows its own course; and sometimes it moves on its own without permission or any thought of its owner. Whether one is awake or asleep, it does what it pleases; often the man is asleep and it is awake; often the man is awake and it is asleep; or the man would like it to be in action but it refuses; often it desires action but the man forbids it. That is why it seems that this creature often has a life and intelligence separate from that of the man, and it seems that man is wrong to be ashamed of giving it a name or showing it; that which he seeks to cover and hide he ought to expose solmenly like a priest at mass.
I don't get it, is this a magic show?

                              Hi,

My travel companion on my recent trip was Adam Ant (Stuart Goddard) - Stand & Deliver - The Autobiography - ISBN 978 0 330 44012 7

A childhood idol of mine, an honest and true account of his life, career, downfall, illness etc. I highly recommend.

                              Regards, Tiao

That's funny, I was a fan in the 80s. I actually got a chance to see Adam and the Ants perform in a relatively small place in the mid-90s here in So. Cal. Marco was still with him then. They totally rocked. They busted out all their big hits and then a lot of earlier stuff like "Lady" and "Whip in my Valise", amazing show.
"Bankin' off of the northeast wind
                                Salin' on a summer breeze
And skippin' over the ocean, like a stone."
