              Hi guys,
Based on your recommendations I picked up "Platform" by Michel Houellebecq, "Thailand Fever" by Chris Pirazzi and Vitida Vasant, also some ridiculous piece of shite, whose title escapes me at the moment, by some mouth-breathing  pinhead using the nom de plume of Steven Yang.
I really liked "Platform," the guy writes his ass of. I especially liked how he started the book with a nod to Camus. The first sentence reads, "Father died last year." I read that as a direct reference to Camus', "The Stranger", which begins, "Mother died today, or was it yesterday?"
I found "Thailand Fever" interesting for its insights into the differences between western and Thai cultures and how those differences are played out in the realm of interpersonal relationships.
The less said about the dreck produced by Mr. Yang the better.
I've also just read "The Ground Beneath Her Feet" by Salman Rushdie. I highly recommend it.
"Bankin' off of the northeast wind
              Salin' on a summer breeze
And skippin' over the ocean, like a stone."
              -Harry Nilsson

Just finished Arthur C Clarkes short story, " the nine billion names of God". weird stuff...about Monks who spend all day typing out all the conceivable names of God for a terrible reason that cant be revealed here as its too hideous for contemplation

circa 1949 i think... i like the old stuff me

Shame we don't have people like him running the country.

                      Park......

The Biography of Air Chief Marshal Sir Keith Park by Vincent Orange.

He was in charge of 11 Group - the part of Fighter Command that protected SE England during the Battle of Britain.
He probably should be as well known as Nelson or Wellington.

I rarely read fiction books as I have a tendency to sit and read them straight through from cover to cover.
I can do a 5-600 page Tom Clancey novel in 24 hours flat!

When you are in Thailand, how do you even get the time to read anything more involved than condom instructions?!?!?!

My last holiday read was The Complete Works of Sherlock Holmes - did me four months travelling in India and Sri Lanka and a right cracker (if old school) of a read..

It was also an excellent read to share with Natalie, she was like a kid asking me to read it to her

The Hound of the Baskervilles is one of my favourite books.

Hope to catch you soon in bkk to discuss Sherlock Holmes vices like opium, cocaine and the real gender of Irene Adler.
