This all seems rather subjective. It seems like everyone has someone they feel is the best. Even looking at the Rolling Stone list I was amazed Kirk Cobain was on the list. Anyway, just gonna put my 3 favorites.
1. Eddie VanHalen
2. Carlos Santana
3. Mark Farner
It's been a rough day. I got up this morning ... put a shirt on and a button fell off. I picked up my briefcase, and the handle came off. I'm afraid to go to the bathroom.

With ya there..... the poll wasn't for 100 of the "most tortured souls" but for how a guy plays his licks; and Cobain was average at best
some from there which are a farce IMO;
12 Kurt Cobain of Nirvana
16 Johnny Ramone of the Ramones - since when does mastering 3 chords make someone 'great'? I mean, I liked the band but Johnny was average also
17 Jack White of the White Stripes - Huh?? forget 3 chords, this band thrives on 2!
87 Joan Jett - pretty funny, Rolling Stone
some I agreed with for sure;
24 The Edge of U2
59 & 60 Jonny Greenwood, Ed O'Brien of Radiohead
75 Adam Jones of Tool
86 Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath
99 Greg Ginn of Black Flag
Seminal LA surf-punk circa 1978-1982, that guy could crank!! saw them twice, first in 1979....Ginn had a cool see-through guitar body and ravaged the thing
some other awesome guys on that list;
45 Frank Zappa - dead now, right?
48 Joe Perry of Aerosmith - pretty fast; Boston guy
69 Steve Howe of Yes -never cared for Yes, a bit too artsy for my tastes but all my stoner friends had their shit, he can play also. Brit, of course
another influential guitar player not mentioned anywhere yet is Bob Mould of Husker Du and Sugar
Guilt is Gods way of telling you you're having too much fun.
