So Toshiba have opted out of the high definition DVD war finally. The sexier sounding Blu Ray discs are gonna now be the sole format so you can all rush out and buy a Blu Ray player now!
Actually - you may already have one... Do you have a PS3 player?
So now that all the investment billions have been spent are we going to embrace this new technology the same why we rushed out and bought VCR (video cassette recorders) machines?
Have all the companies and film bosses got it right? Are we all gagging for movies that are better than existing DVDs? Do we need 500 languages and multiple camera angles and...
...Do we bollocks!
The idiots that fought over this and lost are better off out of the game and the companies (Sony, mainly) that won are gonna be in for a bit of a rude awakening when they finally figure out that they can't give these things away and that most people probably won't be spending thousands on replacing their favourite movies.
Here are the top ten reasons that this technology will crash and burn...
1 - Movie downloads from the internet (legal and otherwise!)
2 - Cost of buying Blu Ray movies and (and blanks!)
3 - The extra features on a Blu Ray aren't significantly better than the DVD that you already own.
4 - Pay Per View from cable and sat. companies.
5 - A lot of people simply won't buy to thumb their noses at Sony for making us go through this crap again.
6 - Entertainment and internet via mobile phones is set to explode.
7 - Discs as a medium for storing information will be all but dead in less than 5 years.
8 - The world will become a 'hotspot' and access to any kind of entertainment previously on a disc will be (are now!) available on remote hard drives.
9 - Hard Disc Drive recorders that you can plug into your telly and program to record with a few clicks.
10 - Media Centers will take over from all your other boxes which are piled high under (or on top of) your TV set!
Reason 11 - - Hollywood quit making decent movies years ago, so what's the point?
Don't waste your money on this bollocks... unless you are a geek or a gadget freak!
Of course I could be wrong... I've never been to Phuket so what do I know!
