    How big is your TV?

Ok... have most of you already got the big screen wide screen plasma digital oversized big bollocks TV yet?

Mine's only a small one! 27 inch Samsung cathode ray tube 4 by 3 impossible to carry 5 tone box warping my sideboard!

Cathode ray tubes are something that kids won't ever have to know about in ten years time!

Has anyone out there got a big one? Now's your chance to brag and get us all jealous!

Anyone thinking about buying a big one soon? What are your plans?

I'd love a biggie, but I think I'll hold off till next summer before I make the splurge!

make sure you buy one with HDTV 1080 format although in LOS im not sure if its the same as UK .

maybe LOS has High definition already.

There is a big Plasma vs LCD debate as well. read up on it first as this might make a difference and is not country specific.

I'm looking at getting a Sony KDL 46W2000.  At the moment the only review I have seen is in a UK magazine but it is very enthusiastic. UK price is £2100 - about $4000 US.

Recently I looked at getting a better TV for 'Herself' and she said "I already have 2 TV's why would I want another"

She talked her way into another mobile phone instead

Anyone what to buy a Thomson 28WF401G?

(Tomcat @ Nov. 29 2006,17:56) make sure you buy one with HDTV 1080 format.....
I've just been through all this because we're putting several into a new apartment, and I think you're jumping the gun a little here.

1080 resolution (and then you have 1080i and 1080p, but that's another long story) is esentially available only in projection sets and LCDs, not plasma, although there is now one Pioneer monitor available at nearly USD10,000, Those sets are far more expensive than the prevelant 720 standard.

The other thing to consider is that there is no broadcast TV anywhere at 1080 resolution, so if you use your set to watch cable TV or standard DVDs, the added cost for the 1080 resolution will get you nothing at all. The generally accepted wisdom right now is that it is unlikely that cable TV will ever be broadcast at 1080 native resolution because of the huge bandwidth required to do it and the minimal improvement in quality you get.

The only way you get any benefit at all from the considerable extra cost of native 1080 resoultion is if you start buying either HD DVDs or BlueRay DVDs, which are mutually incompatible formats (can anyone remember VHS vs. BetaMax?). These DVDs both provide output at 1080 native resoultion, but this is the only source that will provide it to your hugely expensive new TV.

In other words, the 1080 native resolution sets are really for the guys who just have to have the latest technology, no matter what the cost and how little benefit you really get. For folks who watch cable TV and ordinary DVDs, save yourself some money and buy a 720 native resoultion set. You'll end up with exactly the same benefits at a considerably lower price.
