They still argue the correlation between firearms being in the public domain and the number of murders/deaths involving the said guns.
We have a fair amount of gun crime in the UK but it is nothing like the States.
Take away the guns and see the crimes fall. Simple.seriously pig headed,arrogant,double standard smart ass poster!

(ziggystardust @ May 16 2007,22:59) This type of respect doesn't seem to be working. The murder capital of the world is Detroit or Washingtion. They are always no.1 or no.2. The country with the most homicides involving firearms in the world is always, always the US.
Can you possibly believe all the witless drip you spew?
More importantly, is a murder somehow more acceptable if it is committed with a knife rather than a firearm?

didn't they take the guns away in austrailia just recently and the crime rate went up because only honest people turned in their guns.
every state in USA that has inacteda concealed gun law has seen the rate of violent crimes go down
while every state that has enacted stronger gun control has seen crime go up
now here where it gets tricky because i have to remember stuff with my bad memory and have been drinking tequila tonight
every country that has enacted total gun control has been followed by a decrease in peoples freedoms.
china=right before mao took over
cambodia=right before polpot took over
britian/scottland=hasn't really lost personal freedom but now only terriost have the guns
there are a few others but right now everything is blury
i knew i should have took one of the ugly hookers tonight

But there will be less dead people if the bad guys have knives not guns.

I think this just proves Ziggy's thread about the degradation of the forum yet again. In the good old days (sigh), a response along the lines of "Hey Ziggy, if you look at it on a per capita basis, you might see an alternative picture" would probably have been forthcoming
But, oh no, you change the statistics and start throwing in personal insults again

The official number of murders in Thailand is usually put at around 3000 that's out of 62.6 million people - that works out as about 0.048/thousand.
The link gives over 20,000 killed by firearms alone! OK I know about official figures in Thailand.
I clicked on the link to the Thailand crime statistics:- Thailand Murders (per capita): 0.0800798 per 1,000 people = about 5000 per year. Murders with firearms: 20,032
So I guess if they get killed with a gun they are shot at least 4 times I think someone needs to point this out to nationmaster.com.
Most Thai's do not have enough money to buy a firearm.
It's reckoned something like 50% of the murders by firearms in Thailand are in border areas and are the result of drugs wars or illegal killings by police and the army.
Ziggy is right about some US cities - the percapita rate in a few cities in the US is scary. I did say a FEW OK the overall result for the US is not so bad.
If you really want to get killed go to Johanesburg in South Africa - that place seriously skews the total figures fo SA because such a large proportion of the countrys' population live there.
The other place is Sao Paulo in Brazil - which curiously is missing completely from this table.
The reasons are the same as Jo'burg and the US cities - a combination of drugs and the poorest people in the country in close proximity to the richest.
Look I managed to type that without insulting anyone.
RR.
PS. I still can't work out why I'm supposed to respect someone because they are carrying a gun
I shall always remember one wanker of a soldier waving an AK47 at me in Roumania. He was smoking behind a shed in an area with highly flamable gases and was surprised when I walked around the corner just doing my job. Still I have no doubt the dumb fuck was not given any bullets so I just turned my back and kept walking.Pedants rule, OK. Or more precisely, exhibit certain of the conventional trappings of leadership.

In the old days, I'd go kamikazee against Sangabriel's rants.
However, they are so mindless and repeated, I read them and yawn now. Actually most of the time, if I see Sangabriel as a poster, I just don't read. What's the point of reading jibberish.
Anyhow, I knew my post would raise this kind of controversy.
It's like being classified as gay or not, there will never be concensus, and we just need to accept that. And for every number for guns, there is a number against them.
I don't know what's the real truth. What I do know is that I can walk along in Canada and Thailand, where guns are extremely rare for the average person, and not need to worry about that. If I get really pissed at someone, or them at me, I know the worst case is a broken nose; not so bad. Maybe in the US the guns prevent the broken nose but enable the death. I don't know.

Another point to add to yours is that many of the murders are due to the insurgency in the southern portion of the country. So any statistics regarding Thailand should also consider that... it is not as if your average Thai killing his neighbor accounts for all the killings.
