O.k. So I have two laptops & two desktops so I figured what the fuck, I'll go ahead and install this Vista OS.
Well I've been poking about now for five hours and I really Like it. All my printers work fine. And all my old software programs work well. So far so good. Vista has a lot of really neat stuff in it.
My Last test I'm doing is the battery life test. I've just begun it at 8pm. I typically get three hours of battery life.

So far the only bad thing I can find about Vista is IE7. Setting up the Tab browsing is not as striaght forward as I thought. I like the concept though. The Aero gagets are pretty cool except the vertical format. Wish I could make it sping 360 degrees.

Mirimark, keep it coming. Tell me the positives.

I have 4 PCs, now 5 printers thanks to a free one from Epson (can u believe that?), and 2 tablets.

I bought a legit copy of Vista and am anxious to try it. I don't believe all the complaining. Despite Windows poor quality at times, there is no one better out there, and I suspect for every annoyance noted, there are 10 good things too.

XP was a slight pain (it was actually SP2 that was fucked up for a while); but I couldn't live without it now. I imagine Vista will be the same, and there is no gain without a little pain.

Ziggy, if you want to try Vista, install it on your highest spec computer - the most RAM, fastest graphics card, biggest HD, fastest CPU. From all accounts if your computer is not up to spec, things slow down, and Vista will disable many of its features.

As always, backup all your data before you install, just in case the unforeseen happens! I know you have many GB of fantastic photos that are irreplaceable, as well as your other important files.

rather than have to buy a new computer AND a new operating system, i switched to Linux

i'm using Debian now - later on I will add Fedora as a 2nd Linux OS - Debian and Fedora (RedHat) are the two major distributions of Linux - note that Ubuntu is actually based on Debian

          Debian (Linux)
          Fedora (Linux)

frankly, Linux has gotten as good as Windows, provided you don't want a game-playing platform - when it comes to computer games, Windows is still the champion

you can install Linux as a 2nd os and keep Windows - just make certain to have two separate hard drives, one for Windows and one for Linux

(mirimark @ May 25 2007,11:25) I finally recieved my free copies of windows vista home premium.
I visited several websites to read the reviews and how to install vista.

After reading some articles about Windows Vista I have some concerns that I am not finding the answers to my questions.

            1) will it wipe out my saved folder contents.
            2) should I partition my hard drive so I can boot either my Old Windows Media OS or Vista OS.

Do any of you have some input about this New Vista OS.
Do I need to back up my folders onto a CD before I Load Vista and how hard is it to partition my C: drive so I can Boot different OS's on a single C: drive.
as a computer hacker i think vista is a load of crap not only can 1 hack the os but on some chipset runing vista thear a way to turn off the fan on dell note books note i do not break the law so no need to ban me lol i only hack for it reson not theft .
            but from the hack side

my view on vista as a user base is do not install it
had it preinstall on my laptop i format and install linux

I just finished installing Vista and all my (large set of) paraphenalia. It was the smoothest re-build I have ever done. I had zero problems. I typically have to painfully re-do, re-install some things 10 times, but Vista was perfect. Not one single error.

It is incorrect there is no "Open With" option. I haven't gone through the other complaints yet, but I think they are dubious at best.

So far, best OS I've tried from MS.

I'm glad to hear that the operating system upgrade worked out well for you.

(The version I had was a beta sent out to MS testers. and wasn't finished. Glad they fixed all the bugs.)

If Vista SP2 is anything like XPSP2, then it will not be an upgrade, but a replacement of the entire defective package.

So far, extremely good. I did notice though that after the upgrade, when you wait for Windows Update, there was some 7GB of updates! I guess that was all those bug fixes. But after that, cross my fingers, still, zero problems, and surprisingly, I found a Vista driver for every bizarre piece of equipment I have (quite a bit).

7 Gigabytes of updates? Bloody hell! That's amazing!

Yep - as good as your experience has been and as keen as I am to have the latest and greatest operating system I'll wait till I buy a new laptop first which will have the SP2 version of Vista and a Blue Ray drive too!
