  • Windows Vista OS

I finally recieved my free copies of windows vista home premium.
I visited several websites to read the reviews and how to install vista.

After reading some articles about Windows Vista I have some concerns that I am not finding the answers to my questions.

    1) will it wipe out my saved folder contents.
    2) should I partition my hard drive so I can boot either my Old Windows Media OS or Vista OS.

Do any of you have some input about this New Vista OS.
Do I need to back up my folders onto a CD before I Load Vista and how hard is it to partition my C: drive so I can Boot different OS's on a single C: drive.

I won't upgrade until they fix some of the problems and design faults...

The biggest and dumbest thing they have done is that the "open with..." feature is gone. When I use to right click on a data file, you can click "open with..." and choose a new program to open the file or pick something on the list of applications you've used before. That list of recent applications for opening data files is gone which is very frustrating. Unbelievable that Microsoft would start abandoning some of it's most important features and replace them with flying fucking gizmos and special effects which I don't need.

Also... Media Center can't play DVD folder rips on the Hard Disk Drive which makes it worthless for DVD library playback. I can't believe this isn't supported. What's the point of having an online DVD library? Tossers.

Power save settings are buried in a deep mess. Tweaking the settings don't always stick. Default hybrid sleep mode is very annoying if your system crashes because on the next reboot, it takes minutes to reload a gigabyte from hard drive and it stays that way until you properly shut down Vista.

For most laptops, going from 150 watts 'on' to 145 watts in 'sleep mode' just doesn't make any sense. I have yet to find a Desktop PC that can go in to sleep state level which only uses a few watts of power.

IE7 embedded Windows Media Video playback won't support anamorphic video and forces the video to play in 4:3 mode as oppose to widescreen 16:9 mode. Insane! A basic fix and they fucked up!

Hold off and wait for service pack 2!

I would be doing an upgrade.

I like my os right now. The only reason why I wanted Vista was for the Fucking FLying Gizmo's and Gagets.

Well, that settles it for me. I'll not upgrade now. Maybe I'll just find a website where I can download gagets and gizmos instead.

So that leaves me with one last question.
Does anyone want to buy a couple of copies of Vista OS ? How about $40. each.

If I exclude those limitations, of which only "Open With" bothers me, is is better? What is better?

              Good question - Many answers...

I wouldn't recommend upgrading to Vista on your existing machine. (Even if your existing machine is new and sooper-dooper you may well have situations where your preferred software programs won't load or work properly.

For most of us who are 'general usage' consumers and not geeks I'd strongly recommend buying a new computer with a legit copy of Windows Vista pre-installed.

The gripes I mentioned initially are just the first I could think of off the top of my head. I actually have loads more!

The Microsoft empire seems to be aimed at kids and not business users.

Well, this may be a good option if you have a nice fast computer.

The 'dual boot' option would work but you can't really switch between operating systems once you have booted up your machine. (Actually there is a way that this can be done but it takes too long.)

This maybe a good way to use your upgrade discs... (but get a tech friend to help you partition your main drive because it's possible that you won't even be able to if XP is already on your one and only C drive...)

I just got done visiting several more websites that are reviewing Windows Vista.
I am hard pressed in finding anyone who has something good to say about Vista.
The only people that are saying good things about Vista are the ones that stand to make money off of Vista sales.

The more I read about Vista, the more I am certain I will NOT install this OS.
                    I guess I'm off to Stardocks.com

There is a comedy sketch show in the UK that has just ended it's current run called "Ruddy Hell, it's Harry and Paul!" which take merciless weekly jabs at both Gates and Jobs. Usually it involves the pair of them getting horny about their 'ram' and even has one of them getting dick reduction because they both think having a tiny cock is cooool! Fucking hilarious stuff.

They also do sketches about Nelson Mandela marketing drugs and 'alcopops' to school kids! It's about time that c*nt was taken down a peg or two. As for the madonna impersonations... classic!

Unfortunately it'll never make it to an American audience.

                        Yes, I know. We're stuck with shit like;
                        American Idol and
So, you think you can dance.

For an extra $5 a month I can get the BBC.

Mirimark, now I can see why you are the top dog in your business! $80.00 profit is a good thing!

Just to add to the comments here about Vista - it is a resource hog, so if your system is a couple of years old, it is likely you will need to upgrade your video card and your RAM (at least 1 GB preferably 2 GB), and possibly your CPU.

Another thing that is more insiduous, it may be able to monitor you more closely than Windows XP does. Apparently it has the ability to detect pirated software (watch out Pantip Plaza lovers!), and send information to Microsoft who will distribute it to the other software companies if it is not their product.

This is a rumour, but certainly I will not upgrade for a while because of this and the other comments made.

Anyway my laptop doesn't have the specs to run Vista well, so I can save buying a new computer and spend more in LOS!

                            Fuck Vista.

XP does it for me. If I have to budge of XP I'm going Mac or Linux.
