  • What Operating System do you use?

    Just curious what everyone uses.

If you switched in the last year, what motivated it and how would you compare your experiences?

Update: The new list is coming together: Nong Poy, Anita, Nok, Gif, Liisa Winkler, Kay, Nina Poon.  Is it possible to find 5 more?  Until then, GGs:  Jessica Alba, Yuko Ogura, Zhang Ziyi, Maggie Q, and Gong Li.

Still running Win XP, mainly because my laptop has a lowly Centrino 1.3 GHz, not quite up to running Vista. I also agree with KL, a bit soon to switch - and interesting there will be a Win XP SP 3 coming. Corporations are slower to switch this time as well (as compared to switching to Win XP from Win2k).

        windows is shite period..
just when you get you're system running perfectly tuned...something fucks up.
        driver conflicts,
        restarts
        system hanging.

every time Microsoft release a new os its meant to address these issues, they only thing they change is the error messages.

i have had over 10 desktops , 4 laptops and now considering going for a powerbook..

In the absence of anything better Windows XP.

From previous experience I will stay well away from Vista until all the other dupes out there have done the development of it for that nice Mr. Gates for free.

I once made the mistake of buying Windows 95 shortly after it came out.
I can only describe it as the biggest con perpetrated on the world.

            XP works just fine.

You'd think that they would have worked on an OS that would use LESS power, NOT MORE!!! So Vista is not gonna see the light of day on my compouters for at least a couple of years... well - not untill they can make a computer fast enough to run the damn thing in the background!

I can't believe that we have to 'upgrade' our PCs in order to use the latest version of Windows without suffering a major slowdown in performance.

When they consider releasing a 'Vista Lite' I'll consider changing.

Vista - the Windows with a nice clock!

Had a Powerbook for almost 5 years....only crashed once, and that was the Msoft software that did it!

Just bought a new PowerbookPro, running MacOS and Windows simultaneously....smooth as silk! And I know I will now have another 5 years of zero IT stress!

Exactly the same experience for me.

In five years, I have never had to restart either my Powerbook G4 nor my new Intel Powerbook because of a crash. Never. Not once. When I was running Windows on a ThinkPad, crashes were part of my daily routine.

I know that any claim that the Mac OS is fundamentally more stable and reliable than Windows seems to turn out the Mac haters in droves. Walt Mossberg, the long-time tech columnist for the  Wall Street Journal, has been saying that for years. It is an view that is very widely held and it is certainly my own experience.

Well, the ones I've seen are. They are white and look like something out of a sci-fi movie that was made in the 70s! Complete with loose white keys, etc...

As for that retro monitor... come on fellas... is it just me that thinks that Macintosh computers look like shite?

Am getting a new laptop on friday, a sony viao N31SW, 120g hard drive, 1g ram, xp or vista is optional.

Was going to go with vista, but after reading the above post i cant decide.

Does vista really need that much power to run it ?

Yes it does... What graphics card comes with the Vaio that you are buying?

Make sure it has AT LEAST 250 Megs of dedicated RAM, but preferably 500 and upgrade your other memory from 1 gig to 2 gigs then you'll be OK.

                            Update:

If your computer has the following graphics card - 256MB Intel GMA 950 - then go ahead and get Vista. Anything less then stick with XP for now... Also upgrade your system RAM to 2 gigs and you'll have a good laptop which will run Vista just fine...

The full name of the graphics card is

"Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950 with Total Available Graphics Memory of 224MB"

Am really only buying it because it looks pretty and james bond has one
