  • Phnom Penn, hard to believe a city this side was evacuated by the Kmher rouge about 30 years ago.

Our boat lands and about 15 tuk tuk drivers crowd onto the boat as we are trying to get off with our bags. It was a real shit fight, and all for a single USD fare, I got us both off the boat and walked through a bunch others to a tuk tuk driver who was sitting in his vehicle and had him take me to several different guesthouses until I found one that suited us. He asked me what time I wanted him tommorrow and I said maybe 11 a.m. that i wanted to sleep in. I looked out the window at 10:00 a.m. and he was waiting for us. We came out around 10:30, found a place to eat, and he sat in his ride until we were finished.

        • This is the water side of the esplanade by day. At night hundreds come and sell things or just throw out a blanket and eat by the water amazing how crowded it gets at night.

I would spend happy hours at this place called Happy Pizza Phnom Penn. The happy consisted of $1 Angkor beers and you could order Pizza mild medium or extra strong which was according to the amount of Marijuana they put on it. We ordered extrastrong, but didn't feel any unusual effects, but drank many angkors which effected me. Just before 8 o'clock I ordered 2 beers to beat the cutoff, and the waiter told me don't worry always happy hour for you. So I had several more until the keg ran dry.

In photo #2 a Cambodian kid tries to sell his books to some Germans enjoying the happy hour.

Cambo police gathering motorcycles got into with a westerner who physically took his bike back from them.

                  • S-21 the Khmer rouges interrogation and torture center pretty much as it was found when the Vietnamese liberated it in 1975. The Guards and interrogators had fled but left 14 bodies which are burried on site.

14,000 people went through S-21 and only a handful survived. most were taken out to the killing fields where they met their death, a club over the back of the skull which dropped them into a pit.

                    • S-21 was an old school that consisted of three buildings as shown in photos above.

These are some individual cells. prisoners were systematiclly tortured into confessing crimes of anti-communism as well as turning in other colleagues. Any former government officials, teachers, or anyone who spoke against the Khmer Rouge were rounded up and taken to S-21. The witch hunt even included relatives of high ranking Kmher Rouge officials, as paranoa ran rampid towards the end.

The guards kept incredible records and the confessions have all been microfilmed.

                        • The cells are now part of the museum. Its located in Phnom Penn. Anyone still in the city could have surely heard the screams and cries of prisoners being tortured.

The KR photographed every inmate that came through. The second photo shows mostly woman and children.

The goal of the KR and Pol Pot was to take the country back to year zero.
