I would have loved to ski all alone with no one on the slopes. No tourists, no racists, no beginners, and just fine untouched powdered snow. Everybody working but me. When I lived/worked/skied Lake Tahoe back in 1969 I would work evenings as a busboy in Harvey's and Harrah's Casinos. Ski early at 9 AM and return to shower at 4 PM for work. Ate, bused tables, ate, bused tables, and ate and ate really good Western food. Loved prime ribs, steaks, prawns, mashed potatoes, fresh salad, fresh vegetables, banana splits, cakes, pies, and everything your heart desired. Really got lucky I didn't get hired working the ski lifts during the day. Casinos are fun places to go to for late night snacks and French Dip sandwiches then vanilla ice cream before sleeping and dreaming skiing. I would have loved to ski Canada, but I don't think they allow foreigners to work there. Too much red tape. After two months of solid skiing everyday except the Xmas, New Year's, and Spring break when the crowds were impossible I had enough and moved on to the East Coast continuing my one-year trek. Even met the crowds of college students who were fleeing en mass on the Interstate. Didn't figure out what was going on until I arrived at my uncle's place in Maryland. The Kent State shooting had occurred. I miss the riot in DC by one day. Anyway I visited the sites of Washington DC and on to NYC. What fun I had. Glad I did it while I was young. Secret was to buy a station wagon and stuff a good full-sized mattress in the back. No seedy motels. Ate at a lot of steak houses with the money I saved. What a good life I enjoyed in America.
So go ski in Canada without the crowds. Enjoy the peaceful quiet sliding on soft snow all day long. It will probably not happen ever again.
