Sending money? Why?

One thing has puzzled me , the vast majority of ladyboys and many bargirls have overseas "boyfriends " or sponsors who send them money on a regular basis , ok not everyone , but in many cases the more popular ones have more than one sponsor ........ my question why ?


Im assuming the majority of sponsors are unaware of these forums but also assuming some are

given the idea is to fund your teerak to stay away from their bar and wait only for you , the evidence is 99% take the money and continue as before

Now im not having a go here its none of my business [ or anyone else here ] what people do with their money , but there appears to be no logic to this for very obvious reasons

My take on this is some guys obviously fall in love and by fanancially supporting their love they believe mistakenly , they are the " special one " thais of course are experts of making much of the fact that a little money to us means a lot to them , hence by giving money you are "taking care " .

Also im not blaming the girls here , this is their job and if someone is prepared to send them money for nothing its a nice bonus .

Surely this is a situation that is unique to thailand ,

It happens and the subject has been done to death on this message board...

Basically - a fool and his money are soon parted.

Like you quite rightly point out - it's got nothing to do with us how other people spend their money, but it's a lot of fun seeing them do it!

Some guys don't get any attention other than by buying it. Some smart lazy hookers have figured this out.

I know people who read this forum and STILL send money to hookers... go figure!

I don't send my teerak money and she's never asked.

From her low paying job working massage she manages to Western Union money home to mama.

At the end of my trips I give her some money.  We put it in her bank account.  

Somehow she only had 52 baht left in her account.  I've tried to get the point accross that she should keep some money, say 5000-10000 baht in her account at all times for emergencies even if means sending less money home.  

IF the transaction costs of sending money was negligible, I would give her less when in Thailand and send a small amount every month.  

Does anyone happen to know what the transaction costs are for Western Unioning money within Thailand from Pattaya to Issan? Just curious what she pays when sending money home.

They almost never use WU for transporting money domestically and in fact I've never heard of anyone doing this.

As it's so easy (and free) to transfer funds from one bank account to another via an ATM machine this is their preferred method of choice.

I do this often myself to pay rent etc...

l have mentioned before about me taking lady called Joi from KC a few times on her own,  and once l took Nanci as well.

ANYWAY..........

In april couldn't get no action as my two children and GG with me, but managed to go to Patpong for a shopping trip on my own and called into KC3.

Got chatting to Joi and Nanci, turns out that Joi did have a boyfriend from Belgium who sent her 10,000 baht every month so she doesn't have to work in the bar.

But she chooses to keep on working, pockets the money and saves up for the operation to remove the meat and two veg and she has a cute little peach.

( AND IT WOULD OF BEEN VERY IMPOLITE TO TURN DOWN HER KIND OFFER TO EXAMINE THE FINISHED GOODS - VERY NICE ).

Earlier this year the boyfriend turns up and bearing in mind he thinks he has a pre op and what a suprise for him to find out that he's lost his playmate. He throws a wobbly called her lots of stuff and disappears into the sunset.

And Joi, well she asks me what his problem is ?

l can't explain to her, she just doesn't understand what he wanted or why he sent her money, and bottom line she doesn't care.

She has always wanted to be a girl and now she has her wish, oh, and she also has a boob job now, looks very hot.

Already booking for September and may take Joi and a friend from KC3 with me on Saturday and maybe guess bar on Sunday before meeting up with my GG on Monday and flying to Malaysia / Phuket.

Oh and my GG, she works in a pool bar and will go with other customers for cash, me every month l send her a " Bag o Nowt"

And when l fly home, guess what  . . . . .

l am good friends with her, l get an occasional text and sometimes l call her for a chat. When l am in Thailand l take her away with me all expenses paid and take care of her ( she saves me money on shopping and eating ). She looks after my needs very well and l am happy and she is happy with the arrangement.

And l know about her other good friends, one in Singapore, one in Canada and one other in uk, she has told me one of them sends her cash now and again, l can't figure why they would be so dumb.

Long term anyone with enough cash to support her could turn up and take her for keeps, she's 6,000 miles from me and l am under no illusions about our relationship, but for now it's not too bad an arrangement for me.

l have fun with her and l also get some l/b action at the start and end of my holiday

I think she uses Western Union.  I know she uses Western Union to mail fish (don't ask    ).

Maybe I'm wrong about this though Stogie.  It's very frustrating that because of the language barrier that I can't have this type of converstaion with her and make sure I got the story straight.

Most of them will get a reasonable wage out of this  - just! -  the average wage in Banggkok is about 20,000 Baht/Month  -  about $500 US.

Sending money inside Thailand is very cheap.  Herself sends her family money via the Thai Post Office and it costs about 30 Baht ($0.75 US) to send 10,000 Baht.

I have sent gifts on occasion. Why? because i want to, especially shortly after a holiday. I never send "regular" monthly payments, and if they ask for anything, they wont get anything else. I am not some newbie or PLM, as Brocklanders calls it, and I know they still work.

As you all say, i know they have forgotten about it instantly, and unless you live there you've no chance.

But I guess it makes ME feel better for some weird reason.

This single sentence sums up the entire history of the P4P industry in Thailand...

If it makes you feel good then do it. Not really our business to tell anyone how to spend their money. But don't ever think that you'll get special favors, loyalty or better sex, etc. You are a mark in the longest running con in Thailand.

But we could bleat on about this till the cows come home. You can't tell anyone anything...

There is a huge gulf between the western perception of giving gifts and the Thai perception.

In the west we give gifts allegedly to make the recipient feel better.  In Asian (and specifcally Thailand) there is no pretense  -  it is to make the giver feel better.


What most of us from the west don't appreciate is the politics of giving gifts in Thailand.

Firstly the reciever of the gift(s) does not show any sign of thanks.  Nor should the sender illicit it.  This would exhibit something like averice (greed).

Secondly the receiver of the gift(s) does not ever open it in sight of the giver  -  this would show impatience/greed.

Thirdly thanks are not required as the act of giving the gift gives satisfaction to the giver  -  why should the reciever have to add to this?


When you understand this - perhaps you will be a little way towards understanding your Terak
