but a week every few months is  good enough, I learn what the people who are being played on a daily basis are thinking about,  I have a few good laughs about it with Thai people and falangs who really understand Thailand and then get back to my normal life and forget all this nonsense.

This debate is not about weather they do drugs or want more money. its about what is considered the right price / as said before the price is an agreement between 2people,they can haggle which is the asian way(in the street i usually cut what they first say by half and a little more so i can haggle back to half price) same with girls in bars. i speak thai quite well and enjoy the bartering.If some people are not comfortablewith the thai barter system then you dont engage in it, but i for one love to barter and get a reasonable price.Its the asian way, when in asia do as the asians do.
Its will never be about everyone paying one price never. for me its as stated before .

There are cheapskates who *think* they get it for free from bargirls (not to be confused with the ones who are actually offered it). I have heard the stories like the guy who didn't pay anything because "you should feel honored for the chance to stay in a nice hotel room for a night". Or the guy who takes one out of the bar for a week and shocks her when saying goodbye at the airport, giving nothing because "I thought it was free". Many guys are naive or suffer from hansum man syndrome.

I think people should pay whatever they want as long as it is either agreed up front, or if not at least market price which appears to be 1000 / 1500 these days. To me, the real test to know whether you paid enough for the conditions is whether the same girl will go with you again. As someone who pays 1000, I've gone with some good ones a dozen times so it's certainly a mutually appropriate sum in my situation, and I've never had anything stolen.

Now for those that say paying "x" is ridiculously small and wrong, do you feel the same way about other things? For instance, if a meal is 20 baht do you pay 60? If a taxi ride is 50 baht you pay 200? In other words, do you have an inherent need to make Thai prices closer to your home country or else feel you are somehow disrespecting them? Or does this only come into play with bargirls? Because I have to tell you something, if this were a poll for Thai people the high end would be 500 baht. Don't forget bargirls get an incentives based monthly salary and your average one gets a respectable wage just from that alone. And also the girls would be making 20-50 baht an hour in other lines of work so even 300/500 baht is a huge bonus for so little time if you look at it objectively and it is a buyers market out there. It's ok by me to reward or impress them with as much as you want however.

Sorry don't entirely agree. Just because someone will see you again and you have not had anything stolen does not necessarily make it an appropriate fee for services rendered. Maybe it is rent day or some other equally good reason so she is willing to except under what she might otherwise be happy with.

Apples and Oranges mate. The meal is a set price and you get a bill for it. The taxi is metered and once again you know what to pay. The girls prices are negotiable so how do know exactly what they would be happy with?
