In thailand i wear shorts and Polo Shirts. In UK its long trousers and polo shorts, same same but different!

Although not dressing to impress i believe you have to feel good with yourself before going out.
seriously pig headed, arrogant, double standard smart ass poster!

For myself, its just the way my Mom raised me.She would not let me in public with wrinkle sloppy looking clothes. And it has stayed with me through the years. Im dressy casual,i wear what i think looks nice on me. I can give 2 shits about some high-ass designer wear, and their bunch of over-priced clothes.

I'm about the same, I think... If it's clean and pressed and fits me then it's in the wardrobe, ready to go. A few years in the military and boarding school leaves a mark!

Name brands don't impress in Thailand as (as someone has already mentioned) it's assumed they are fake!

Dunno about you lot, but wearing name brand stuff makes me feel like a bit of a fraud.

The brand stuff is a bit of a fraud

It does not matter if your wearing George gear from Asda or real Armani, as long as you look smart and not wearing the pathetic  (in their mind fake)  t-shirts branding beer names etc , depending on your age of course

Leave the shorts and sports gear alone and the girls will like you more if you dress smart in long trousers and a nice shirt in my opinion

My ex loved to me to dress smart and others too, they said I looked a twat in sports gear

It has since worked for me at 45

Take a shower, no facial hair, wash your hair, brush your teeth, wear clean cloths, and for Gods sake use a deoderant. If you are going to be with an LB don't think it's going to be cool to get "pissed." Sure, they want your Baht but being outright gross smelling and dressed like a backpacker ain't going get that good of service. Show some class and make an effort to be presentable, the benefits are well worth it.

During the day time I am usually dressed in shorts thsirt and sandals.
Night time I get dressed up a bit-either jeans or strides polo shirts and shoes, still very casual but more respectibly dressed for the night time bar hops.

I always wear jeans ( Levi's ) and a Punk rock T shirt because no one else wears a punk Rock Tshirt in Thailand so I get lots of conversation out of it. For those of you who don't know, buy a Ramone's Tshirt...
Not up the ass thank you very much...

..shorts and T-shirts during the day(no, I don't wear the dorky dark socks with sandals or shoes) footwear is running shoes or maybe "slippers"(flip flops) which is standard for home......jeans and Aloha shirt at night, loafers, no socks...and of course a clean pair of "theme" boxers....tropical fish, american flags, mickey mouse, etc...and after 20 years, just shaved my mustache on a request from my LB friend in ChiangMai and have to admit my upper lip loves the feel of her soft skin Aloha
                      ....so,  you're really a guy?..............

For me i most comfortable in polo shirt cargo pants or jeans.
I own a cple suits but i hardly wear them wedding furnals or to impress someone. I go out having done the three s (shit shower and shave). If i am at nana etc i am not going to super impress someone i am there for a good time. Nice neat comfy polo shirt good pair of chinos and smeeling prety thats it.

... unfortunately it costs sometimes a little fortune to please that guy who's looking back at me in the mirror. He has quite a stylish taste with a special addiction for Paul Smith. That's the toughest one to please and neurotic narcist I am, that's the only person I love dressing up for!

Is there anybody else out there???

I don't especially want 'em to like me TOO much, then they will call back and hang around when I want 'em gone, which is to say 5 minutes after the load is done. Hell, if I looked like George Cloomey they might hang out longer and who wants that?

and long pants in a tropical country? Why? It's hot as hell and NOT comfortable, my main goal always

I haven't brought a pair of pants to Thailand in at least 4 or 5 years and I don't see 2007 being any different LOL

The main point here seems to be to look clean and presentable and smell good, don't have rotten teeth and bad breath and look like you just rolled out of bed, etc..... of course most people know this, it's just common sense. But going too far the other way to hopefully land some skank I will know for 2 hours, uh-uh.

Great line .... 'For those of you who don't know, buy a Ramone's Tshirt'...

I have had one in my t-shirt drawer since 1978 [not the SAME one of course].....always a classic

My Dead Kennedy's 'Holiday In Cambodia' T-shirt always gets some comments as well
Guilt is Gods way of telling you you're having too much fun.

Exactly and there's lots of way to do that.

You gotta feel comfortable and good about the way your dressed no matter where you are.  And have the sense to dress appropiately and in the LOS there's wide lattitude especially for farang.

Lat night I went to church for the first time this year and wore a denim shirt and kahkis.  It was on the very casual side of appropriate but right for me.  Shorts and a I Wanna be Sedated Tshirt would clearly not be appropriate.

Current societal trends are important too.  I'd have looked like a real jerk last night if I dressed like Jesus or George Washington.

And some have better taste than others which has nothing to do with casual vs dandy.
