The Sad and Pathetic state of clubs in Thailand

Don't get your point, Doug? Is that your first time over there?? This is Thailand, Asia - as Tomcat well put it - you don't find hooker clubs like in St.Petersburg or Moscow (which are probably the best in this world). But the actual club scene - and I'm talking about clubs not gogo-bars - in BKK is excellent and way above the continental European standard! Q-Bar as well as the Bed has a fantastic highly recommended international DJ line-up and is filled with at least 50% freelancing gg's (none of them below an 8 on a scale 1-10) and the occasional ladyboys mixed inbetween. I don't know ANY club here in Europe where I can find that and believe me pal, I know a lot of them!
... and no, not anyone can spin a record otherwise 95% of all clubs on this planet wouldn't play such unbearable music!

As a fairly regular visitor, i have to agree with the points made by Kahuna and dmlbl2001.

In the Uk we live in pretty civilised, mostly regimented routines and for me the thrill of thailand is mixing the wild times of nana, with the beaches of the resorts and having a great trip.

Sorry Doug, but as an expat living there, you have everything at your disposal all the time, not just for a fortnight every 3 months! There are thousands of gorgeous non workers around who are actively looking for farang boyfriends, a quick glance at sanook.com or Mthai will reveal this. And as TC has said, is it really that bad? Heard from one of you today that Obsessions has over 80 ladyboys now, so go in, grab one and head to Jays for the night.

As for me in January I will be hanging at bigdogs, guess bar and the nana "shitpits" still living in hope of finding a diamond in the rough!!

 some of what you say is  true. i  get really shitty with rude thais  from time to time and as you say they are rude and can be quite obnoxious(YES I SPEAK THAI)  so  hear alot of the shit they say behind your back. Having said all that i love nana  and am called the flash because i dont  stay in the bars too long. i walk in one drink  and out  sometimes i dont buy a drink just bar dfne a ladyboy. im totallly sick of thai  real girls as they are just apauling in the sack, so i fuck the best looking ladybpoys in the world  for a reasonable  price. i take no notice of  balshy ladyboys  i brush past em  i take no notice of stupid mamasans who aint worth a pinch of my shit, and i  take no notice of stupid  touts  and idiot taxi drivers.

Yeah, unfortunately, I think this is a big part of the problem. A lot of guys come here expecting a "seedy, third world" experience, and so that's what Nana and Patpong deliver.

Another big problem is that a lot of guys who come here are lowlife, rough-necks, and they'd get geniunely uncomfortable in a nice place because it'd be like "putting on airs" or "being snobbish and uppity".

Now please don't flame me about that, I'm not slamming on anyone. Just pointing out the reality. If you happen to be a lowlife, rough-neck, don't take offense, I'm not saying you're a "bad" person.

What I am saying is that clean bathrooms, friendly staff, a decent floor show, comfortable seats, and good-looking gals/LBs does not equal hi-so wannabe, uppity prick club!

I've been in strip clubs all up and down the East Coast of the States, and even the shittiest truck-stop go-go bar would look like a fucking palace compared to the shitpits in Nana.

But that doesn't stop hordes of guys from coming here and throwing money at the gangsters who run those places. Maybe you UK guys enjoy "seedy" a bit too much. I mean, there's a difference between "seedy" like an underground punk rock club kind of seedy, and "seedy" as in filthy toilet kind of seedy.

Maybe your preferences run towards the later, but I'd at least like to fuck a girl on a mattress that isn't stained with the cum and sweat of 100's of other guys. Ugh. I mean, come on, there's a limit.

And you know what? Maybe I do have an advantage living here, because I know what things SHOULD cost, and that makes the nonsense in Nana/Patpong all the more distasteful.

A couple of you guys where saying how the drinks are "relatively cheap" and so "why not"? But the thing you don't get is that the drinks are NOT cheap at all!!

Yeah, they may be cheap compared to prices in an American or UK go-go, but here they are at least double or triple what you'd pay anywhere else. And what do you get for that extra money? NOTHING.

I guess that's my beef. If I'm going to walk into a place like Obsessions and pay double what I'd pay elsewhere, then at the very least, I'd like the wait staff to piss off and stop begging me for a tip or walking by every 5 minutes and distainfully lifting my glass ("you going to drink that?") as if it's a crime not to chug down my beer and quickly order another one.

I'm not saying everyplace has to be a fucking palace or even as nice as the Guess Bar looks. Now I know that there are different strokes for different folks, but it just boils me to get treated like shit every time I walk into Nana or Patpong when I KNOW that I'm paying a premium rate.

Would it kill them to put those aggressive amazons on a leash? Would it kill them to clean the toilet now and then? Would it kill them to invest a teeny-tiny bit of cash into re-modelling once every 4 or 5 years?

They don't have to sanitize their clubs up to shopping mall standards (I was exaggerating a bit in my last post to make a point), but they could at least bring it up to the point where it'd be fit to kennel dogs in there.

So please don't tell me "hey this is Thailand" or "hey its cheap so what do you expect?" or "hey, I don't want to be a pretenious prick like you", etc...

I know this is Thailand, I live here remember? So trust me when I say, at the barest minimum, we deserve more than what we are currently getting.

And it doesn't have to put on hi-so airs to be better. Those may be my tastes, so I used them in my examples, but I can appreciate that some people might want a more "exotic" experience. So fine, start demanding that next time you come over here.

Here's my little cost-of-living equation that I use to figure out how much things really cost: multiply the dollar value by four and you'll get what that thing FEELS like to a Thai salary.

So if a beer cost 160 baht, that's $4.00 real money, and that seems pretty cheap, right? but it FEELS like a $16.00 beer!!

Ask yourself that next time you're in Big Doggs or some other place. Look around and say, "Is this place really worth $10 to $20 a beer?"

Because that's what you're paying.

Oh yeah, and before anyone chimes in with a "hell yeah, it's worth it! the bars back home don't have so many fine and willing young girls for me to pick from!"

Let me just torpedo that line of reasoning real quick:

a) The girls don't make any money from beer sales.
b) That money goes entirely into the pockets of a bunch of old Thai business men (gangsters) who manage those places and who own the rental contracts on them.

They're probably paying 15 or 20 baht for that beer wholesale, and turning around and selling it to you yokels at 130 to 190 baht a bottle. That's a 800% to 1200% mark up! And what do you get for it??

A bunch of girls who are about half as pretty as any of the ones you'd find in the average mall here. Irritable and pushy waitstaff. And the privilege of paying another $15 (remember that FEELS like $60) just to take her out of the bar.

She gets 1000 to 1500 baht from you (and I highly doubt she gets to keep all of that), and the mafia guys who run those places get at least as much (and often much, much more) from you in bar fines and beer sales.

So half (or more) of the money you spend in those places goes to some wrinkled old Thai gangster and what do you get in return? NOTHING!!

You pay the girl for her services, and she due her duty , but you pay the old gangster for what?....... to be harassed?..... to be over-charged?..... to be dirty?.....

What exactly do the bar owners do for you that warrants you giving them half your trip-expenses? Jay's got the right idea, at least. It may not be to everyone's taste, but the point is, she's considering the needs of her CUSTOMERS and providing them with what they desire. So right from the beginning, she's given you the minimal level of respect that a customer deserves. The places in Nana don't even do that. As far as they are concerned, you are a cow that needs to be milked, and they treat you accordingly. The thought of actually asking you what you'd like to experience or improving the conditions you experience, well, that wouldn't occur to them any more than a dairy farmer might ask a cow what flavor of feed it'd like to get today.

I agree with what Doud is saying and I think most people who live in Thailand appreciate it as well. It remains to be seen though if Jay's formula works for her - my biggest fear is that she just compromises it into another shit pit, although to her credit when she came with us to Obsession the other night, she remarked how crap it was but also could not help wonder why so many guys were in there and happily shelling out big money for whats a second rate experience. Even the girls looked totally demoralised and bored.

I think there is too much over analysis going on here. Simple questions you must answer to yourself is do you enjoy it when you are in there? Are you happy to pay what they want for the privilege? If the answer is yes then keep doing it. If the answer is no then move on.

I do think the attitude of the expats is different to us guys who only come on vacation. I actually like the shit pits I guess because it is different to what I can get back home.

I also love sitting at big dogs and watching the world go by and lounging around at the Guess bar looking at some hot ladyboys whilst listening to music and chatting to friends all depends on my mood.

i dont want the gogos or bars to be too farangized. i can play by their rules, thats why i travel to thailand to escape from western routines. wouldnt be much fun or excitement if i came into a club that was paved with gold.

I go in Cascades and get no 77 to sit next to me. She is beautifull. .I buy her Cola that cost about 120 baht .
A lady drink in London would cost £25 minimum at an escort bar and  much more when the Bollinger arrives in its silver urn..... A thousand pound bill in London is not uncommon in a girly bar.

So for an hour or two the bill for her is three drinks
