You are kicking the idea of democracy in the goolies.
Good. Democracy isn't a privilidge of life. And in most countries it wouldn't work anyway.

Democracy elected Hitler! Look at the mess Germanys in these days also. The last 20 years of 'democracy' has destroyed that country.

Democracy for the rest of Europe is on the way out too. Nations are being crippled with drugs, Muslims and crime and the 'democrats' are powerless to control the streets. And if you are an American, well, you've NEVER had democracy. And you won't while there is a right wing Christian still breathing in that Godless land.

    But there's always New Zealand!
I don"t even know where to begin to pick this post apart. Let's start with Germany - worse off than 20 yrs ago? Tell that to the former East Germans and their relatives they have beenn reunited on the west. Do you think they liked having an East Berlin? How is Germany destroyed?

"And you won't while there is a right wing Christian still breathing in that Godless land" This just doesn't make any sense to me, and I'm an Athieist. How is America a Godless land? Even if you meant god-forsaken, god-fearing, still doens't make any sense. The Christian brainwashing of middle America is why W is in office. He invokes God at every opportunity. It's pathetic

I also don't get your point of nations being crippled with drugs, Muslims, and crime. Every major city has crime and drugs. It comes with numbers. Mayberry wasable to avoid it but New York can't. Sorry, you can't blame any kind of government for crime or addicts.

Many 3rd world nations economies are driven with the drug trade. Damn, even here in US, Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia, marijuana is their best cash crop. Opium is huge in Thailand, might be the largest heroin population period, if not, per capita.

You are just spewing bullshit, goes niether here nor there. No beginnig, no end. I'll listen if you have something to say but for all you insipid rambling, you made not one valid point.

As I said, democracy is not perfect. What is your proposal?

(Stewart @ Sep. 23 2006,14:52) History is full of examples of what happens when the poor/stupid people have no say in their lives.
We have a lot of stupid people here that voted for Bush.  He didn't give them a sandwich though, just planted the thought that the terrorists are coming and you need protection.  I crack up when they tell us that we haven't had a terrorisit attack since 9/11.  Ok, not on American soil but how about Bali, Madrid and London?  If his intelligence agencies are so in touch, wouldn't he have picked up on those?  He thinks we fight terrorism with soldiers.  I think we fight terrorism with spies.

Oh yeah, and gay marriage is terrorism too, the breaking of traditional family unit.  Scare the rednecks with homosexuals moving into your neighborhood and turning your children into gays.   We could probalby learn a lot from the Thais about tolerance and acceptance.

Wish our military would do a coup de tat.  Instead of Disneyland, we all go to Ladyboyland.  Politics play no part, it would be all about making your genitals feel good.

It appears that a sizable group of the members of this forum find "bread and circuses" more important than democracy. When a democracy is crushed it is harmful to all in the long run. If 80% of Thais support the Coup then they are like children who can't wait for Christmas (i.e. the next election).

Thaksin was destroying democracy from the inside and was working on establishing himself as dictator. This Coup will restore democracy ( yes -- I honestly believe that ) and Thailand will be MUCH BETTER OFF IN THE LONG RUN

If a coup had prevented Marcos, Suharto, or Hitler from taking over a 'democratic' government would that too have been a bad thing ?

                              • Ex-WTO boss to be new Thai PM - reports

BANGKOK: Former World Trade Organisation (WTO) head Supachai Panitchpakdi has tentatively accepted an invitation from Thailand's new military rulers to be interim Prime Minister, newspapers said today.

Supachai, now head of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development in Geneva, agreed to the post after persuasion from top royal adviser Prem Tinsulanonda, the English-language Nation said, quoting "high-placed sources".

                                Thai-language newspapers carried similar reports.

Within days of the September 19 military putsch against Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, Supachai had emerged as a clear favourite to run the country on an interim basis.

Besides his international experience, the Netherlands-educated bureaucrat has held a number of government posts, including that of commerce minister after the 1997 Asian financial crisis.

Army chief Sonthi Boonyaratglin, who has promised an interim civilian prime minister would be in place within two weeks of the coup, refused to confirm the reports.

"I have someone in mind, but would rather not say it at this time. I will try to pick a prime minister as soon as possible," he told a news conference in answer to a direct question about the Supachai reports.

The interim prime minister would have free rein to make decisions, Sonthi said, echoing comments by other military leaders backing up their initial promise to step back once a civilian government was in place.

He repeated that martial law, imposed immediately after the coup, would be lifted as soon as possible, but declined to be specific.
